RedTown Technical Services, LLC has a full-time opening for an Electronics Engineer at the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll (USAG-KA) Reagan Test Site (RTS) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. This position requires relocation to Kwajalein Island.
This is an unaccompanied, single-status position. The IRS considers Kwajalein overseas employment, and employees may receive significant tax benefits. Benefits of a single status position on Kwaj include:

Kwajalein Island is similar to a small town in the US, but in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. For example, although there are medical and dental facilities, they are not comprehensive. Kwajalein Island has a population of about 1500 people, with a broad range of activities available ranging from water sports such as scuba diving, sailing, fishing, soccer, softball, and others to various local clubs and organizations. All candidates must be in good enough physical condition such as to not require routine, extensive medical treatment. All candidates must pass drug testing and a physical prior to deployment to Kwaj. All candidates must obtain an interim security clearance prior to deployment to Kwaj.
The purpose of this position is to help maintain the meteorological equipment and various electronics around the Kwajalein Atoll, which are used to support weather observations, forecasting, and mission operations. This position is at the Kwajalein Weather Station.
Duties
Primary duties involve providing preventative and corrective maintenance support for a dual-polarized S-band Doppler weather radar along with preventative and corrective maintenance and support for a variety of atmospheric instruments requiring knowledge of modern digital communication technologies. Selected candidate must be able to learn and utilize instrument-specific electronic troubleshooting, repair, and installation practices.
Duties include, but are not limited to, managing instrument technical support, including participation in technical reports, aiding in detailed engineering plans for improvement and modernization. This includes facilities specifications for new radar installations and producing technical drawings. Duties will also include remotely monitoring radar and instrument status, troubleshooting, and coordinating maintenance activities with other personnel. The position requires occasional on-call, weekend, and holiday work.
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- B.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline and 3-5 years directly related experience, or equivalency.
- Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a security clearance.
- Ability to test, diagnose, and repair complex radar systems safely to the component level, including electronics equipment, such as receivers, transmitters, servos, and motors.
- Basic knowledge of Doppler weather radar design, control software, and theory of operation; understanding of radar power amplification and transmitter systems.
- Experience in common electronics maintenance practices, comprehension of basic electronics, mechanical drawings, and the capacity to understand technical documents.
- Ability to apply electronic troubleshooting and repair skills to meteorological instrumentation.
- Understanding of the precise and competent use of RF test equipment, such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, and associated accessories.
- Experience coordinating modification operations, such as radome replacements, antenna/pedestal removal, facilities overhaul, etc.
- Experience with safety procedures and risk management.
- Ability to determine personnel, equipment, and tooling needs.
- Experience with AutoCAD software.
- Operational knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, TCP/IP, and VPNs
- Ability to occasionally work in confined spaces, lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and platforms, and use basic hand tools.
- Skills in organization, documentation, and verbal / written communication.
Desired qualifications:
- M.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Possession of a security clearance.
- Experience in Doppler and dual-polarized weather radar.
- Sigmet receiver video processor knowledge.
- Computer programming experience in scripting and languages such as Python, C, C .
- Familiarity with installing and troubleshooting modern computer communication equipment, including fiber optic systems.
- Familiarity with computer networking equipment, including installing and working with routers and servers.
