The Electrical Engineer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to support the Engineering Design Team. This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager at the current time and will assist other engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate design and quality practices. The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations. Engineers are expected to attain & maintain their professional engineer licensure while continually seeking improvement of their skillset. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Responsibilities

  • Support of engineering design and analysis projects for the oil & gas, mining, renewable power industries as well as projects in the commercial sector.
  • Application of technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations.
  • Development of AC & DC power systems, one-line diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams, power distribution plans, electrical area classification drawings, grounding plans and lighting plans.
  • Gather field data, perform SKM or ETAP (per client guidance) studies, and generate reports.
  • Perform basic calculations: short circuit, cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit sizing & fill, others.
  • Design and specify electrical equipment including 15kV gear, 5kV gear, medium voltage motor control centers, low voltage motor control centers, switchgear, switchboards, variable frequency drives & soft starters, motors, transformers, uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), panelboards, power distribution centers (PDC's) and other typical electrical equipment.
  • Perform electrical systems analysis including load flow, short circuit, arc-flash and protective relaying calculations, and settings.
  • Develop conceptual designs and execution plans.
  • Work with clients and vendors to obtain information required to complete engineering design deliverables on schedule while building long term working relationships.
  • Responsible for Quality Assurance process adherence.
  • Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards.
  • Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum).
  • Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 20% is normal).
  • Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditions
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings, Spartan and client-specific background checks, and annual motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company and client policies.

Project Management

  • Communicate and develop project change requests to Project Management
  • Develop and maintain strong communication lines with clients and project team members (internal and external)

Business Development

  • Provides technical support to the Business Development Team, as needed.
  • Generates labor estimates, deliverable lists, technical & commercial qualifications
  • Coordinates proposed design concepts with other engineering disciplines and proposal staff
  • Actively participates in trade shows, conferences, and other industry related functions.
  • Constantly promotes the Company and capitalizes upon opportunities to capture work

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET accredited school; MS Degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
  • Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams
  • Working to obtain Professional Engineer licensing
  • Experience with specialty electrical software packages such as SKM, Etap, Easy Power, Visual, CYMCAP, Aspen One Liner, PSCAD, etc. is a plus
  • Heavy industrial experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, API Recommended Practice Documentation, IEEE & ISA standards
  • Ability to pass drug screen and continual random drug testing required
