Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Utility Electrical Designer to support the design and drafting of gas and/or electric utility systems. In this role, you'll coordinate and develop complex project designs, specifications, and engineering drawings, often collaborating closely with engineers, survey teams, and contractors. You'll play a key part in ensuring compliance with utility standards and government regulations while managing multiple assignments and solving Real Time design challenges in the field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma and over eight years job related work experience, including at least four years' experience in the design and drafting of gas and/or electric utility systems; or the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of gas and/or electric engineering and construction standards, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to develop project requirements and prepare complex designs, finished drawings, and calculations requiring limited engineering theory.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, manage, and coordinate multiple work assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret utility drawings, site plans, topographic maps, and highway construction drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to make mathematical calculations, make detailed field surveys, and apply standards necessary to determine design requirements.
- Ability to use personal computers and computer aided design and drafting systems.
- Ability to prepare technical reports.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and to anticipate and resolve problems promptly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Associate Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design preferred
- Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 5 - 10 years experience in design and or drafting disciplines, with a background in system protection and control.
- In lieu of degree, 8+ years of experience in design and or drafting disciplines, with a background in system protection and control.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under minimum supervision, coordinates and develops complex designs, specifications, and engineering drawings for special and major projects.
- Coordinates the activities of and provides technical guidance for designers, drafters, survey personnel, and contractors assigned to special or major projects.
- Collaborates with engineers by performing such duties as, preparing reports and estimates, making technical calculations, conducting investigations, and monitoring field tests and surveys.
- Identifies specifications and codes necessary to comply with requirements of governmental agencies and other utility companies and acquires necessary approvals and permits.
- Reviews project designs prepared by others for adherence to all regulatory agency and Company standards.
- Prepares layouts, sketches, material requisitions, and finished drawings for permits and construction.
- Advises contractor and Company personnel regarding solutions to special problems in design of facilities and systems not covered by formal standards.
- Makes site visits to develop and review designs for construction and to solve special construction problems. May be required to respond to emergency events.
