Duties and Responsibilities of the Electric Motor Mechanic: - Repair AC motors up to 4160V and select DC motors, as well as various pumps, generators, and gearboxes.
- Perform complete tear-down of electric motors and rotating equipment for repair and evaluation.
- Inspect mechanical and electrical components to assess condition.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues using specialized testing equipment and established procedures.
- Record precise measurements of frames and shafts, including mic fits and shaft runout tolerances.
- Conduct core testing to verify the integrity of stator windings and insulation systems.
- Prepare detailed reports and work scopes based on inspection and test results.
- Replace bearings and other worn components as part of the repair process.
- Balance rotors, fans, and other rotating parts using a balance machine to meet tolerance specifications.
- Clean and blast components to remove contaminants and prepare for reassembly.
- Reassemble motors and equipment following manufacturer specifications and best practices.
- Perform test runs and record electrical performance and vibration readings to ensure quality and reliability.
- Apply paint and protective coatings as part of the final finishing process.
