About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and results-driven ELA Teacher. This teacher will lead rigorous, engaging instruction that builds students' reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. Using the Reading Reconsidered curriculum and high-leverage instructional strategies, the ELA Teacher will foster a love of reading while preparing students for the academic demands of high school and beyond.

This role requires close collaboration with grade-level content teams and the Special Education team to ensure that instruction is differentiated and inclusive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver daily ELA lessons aligned to the Reading Reconsidered curriculum and grade-level standards

  • Use data to inform instruction, re-teach as needed, and track student progress toward reading and writing benchmarks

  • Provide targeted supports to students through small-group instruction, writing feedback, and intervention strategies

  • Collaborate with co-teachers, SPED specialists, and grade-level teammates to support all learners

  • Build a strong classroom culture grounded in the school's RISE values: Respect, Integrity, Scholarship, and Effort

  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, behavior, and academic goals

  • Participate in weekly Friday professional development and contribute to schoolwide academic initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (required); Master's degree in Education or English-related field (preferred)

  • New York State certification in ELA or Childhood Education with extension (preferred)

  • Experience teaching ELA at the middle school level, especially in under-resourced settings (preferred)

  • Strong belief in the power of rigorous reading and writing instruction for all students

  • Familiarity with or interest in the Reading Reconsidered curriculum and high-leverage instructional practices

  • Commitment to ongoing growth, feedback, and collaboration
