Role Purpose

Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment for all associates. Ensure compliance to legal and established system requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems.
  • Maintain various HSE information systems on the company intranet and network.
  • Facilitate organization and leadership development efforts to address root cause of EHS related issues.
  • Coach management and employees at all levels to ensure compliance with all EHS program expectations
  • and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 141001 and ISO 45001 standards and implement improvements within
  • facility. Conduct internal management system audits as needed.
  • Conduct internal safety/environmental risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and risks
  • for equipment and processes and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Responding to and investigating events including workplace incidents, injuries and near-miss events.
  • Drive closure of effective corrective/preventive actions, as assigned, and ensure lessons learned are
  • communicated and integrated into future practices.
  • Coordinate HSE training and education as needed, for all plant personnel (new and existing) to ensure
  • compliance with legal, system and interested parties' requirements.
  • Perform safety orientation for all facility contractors.
  • Conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.
  • Responding to emergency situations when they arise.
  • Complete and submit reports to both Corporate and legal entities as required, and conduct required legal
  • reviews.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions and incidents as required by legal and
  • company directives.
  • Monitor and enforce the use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Lead safety committee meetings and initiatives.
  • Coordinate medical treatment of worker's compensation injuries through approved providers.
  • Prepare annual HSE Department budget preparation.
  • Maintain communications with medical providers as necessary to assist with cost containment under workers compensation program, while maintaining confidential.
  • Review and dispose of all materials of all materials / chemicals submitted for use within the facility according to internal procedures and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage recycling program according to ISO 14001 management system requirements.
  • Perform other duties as asigned.

Qualification and Skills

  • Associates degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar HSE role preferred.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g. CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
  • OSHA 40-hour certification
  • Certified internal auditor in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems

Specific Functional Capabilities, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Essential
  • Proven track record of successful implementation and maintaining health/safety and environmental
  • management systems that resulted in measurable improvements.
  • In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal HSE regulations.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in conducting safety training sessions.
  • Ability to think critically and develop effective solutions to complex HSE challenges.
  • Willing to work off-shifts when necessary or take off-shift calls / meetings.
  • Familiar working with various office equipment, computers and MS Office including Word, Outlook,
  • Powerpoint, Excel and cloud-based systems.
