QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree from Interpreter Training Program, Ohio license as an Educational Interpreter

REPORTS TO:
Center Director- Intervention and Support Services

JOB SUMMARY:
To provide interpreting and other support services to hearing-impaired students participating in any setting within the school district. The educational interpreter's primary function is to facilitate communication among hearing-impaired students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system. Other duties are performed when not required to provide interpreting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide expressive and voice interpreting, using the mode of communication stated on the IEP and to assist in the evaluation of communication.
2. Communicate everything spoken in the classroom, encourage students to voice for themselves and to directly interact with teachers and peers.
3. Provides instructional assistance to program and teacher
4. Implements/follows instructional plan and behavior management plan developed by teacher and establishes self as authority figure with the students.
5. Confers with all teachers on a regular basis
6. Assists in creating a favorable physical environment that includes responsibility for adaptive equipment, including FM, and CC films.
7. Follows procedures as outlined in interpreter manual, including the development of a sub folder.
8. Adheres to RID and HCESC standards of dress, punctuality, and confidentiality.
9. Assist students and teachers during down time when not interpreting as a teacher assistant under the direction of the teacher or preview class or professional material.
10. Supports and advocates for students in classroom, school, and community
11. Accompanies students on field trips and in community training and inclusive settings
12. Inservice regular classroom teacher on the role of the interpreter
13. Participate in student staffing, educational team meetings, including the MFE and the IEP, providing goals and insight on the success of communication strategies.
14. Provide interpreting for extracurricular activities, parent meetings and other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or lead interpreter.
15. Maintain regular attendance.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary to be established by the Board.
