Porter County Education Services (PCES) is looking for Educational Diagnosticians for the school year.
PCES offers a 185 day contract and a wonderful benefits package.Educational Diagnostician Job Description Educational Diagnosticians ("Diagnosticians") are key members of the multidisciplinary team. They support students through their expertise as special education teachers and knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies and assessing needs of students. They help children fulfill their roles as a student by working with schools, teachers, parents, and/or community stakeholders to determine the need for evaluations for special education services. Diagnosticians, along with School Psychologists, identify areas of strength and weakness for students, and provide recommendations for academic and/or behavioral support for students within the educational setting. The Diagnostician is often the primary point of contact during the special education evaluation process. Diagnosticians work with the multidisciplinary team to manage a caseload of evaluations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to administration/interpretation of various assessments (e.g., standardized academic achievement; adaptive behavior functioning), managing cases, assisting with functional behavior assessments, conducting observations of students, completion of evaluations, writing evaluation reports, creating initial IEPs and attending case conferences.
Licensure/Experience Requirements - Must have a valid Mild Interventions License
- Need to have taught in a special education setting for a minimum of 5 years
Job Requirements & Essential Functions of Educational Diagnostician
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: - Operate within the parameters of PCES policies and procedures, as well as those of each school district
- Demonstrate effective time management, as well as strong writing and organizational skills
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with colleagues and coworkers in the mutual interest of students
- Conduct educational assessments of students within the prescribed timelines in cooperation with the School Psychologist and other multidisciplinary team members
- Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports via the recommended word processing platform and share with key stakeholders within the multidisciplinary team
- Attend case conferences for students to present evaluation data and/or act as a resource to the student's IEP team
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities related to the role of being an Educational Diagnostician
- Attend mandatory department meetings
- Maintain knowledge of current legislation, regulations, and assessment tools as it relates to the position of an Educational Diagnostician. Specifically, maintaining knowledge of IDEA and Article 7 regulations, including a comprehensive understanding of nondiscriminatory evaluation placement and reevaluation criteria.
- Assist and guide teachers in observing and referring students for suspected special education eligibility
- Conduct careful and efficient academic and/or behavioral evaluations
- Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student's cumulative records
- Following mandated expectations of Article 7, in conjunction with the School Psychologist and other multidisciplinary team members, complete required evaluation reports that interpret relevant functional, academic and behavioral assessment data in a manner that is user-friendly and results oriented
- Provide recommendations regarding educational placement, accommodations and instructional strategies based on assessment data
- Coordinate and/or participate in case conferences to determine the eligibility, appropriate educational planning and/or reevaluation of students who require special education programming and services
- Ensure that all legal and procedural details have been followed when considering eligibility for special education programs
- Provide support, instruction, and technical assistance to educators and administration for creation of appropriate measurable goals
- Act as a resource to assigned school buildings, multidisciplinary team, parents and/or community stakeholders through planning and conducting in-service programs and workshops to assist with improving student outcomes
- Demonstrate literacy with regard to technology usage, including but not limited to the following types of applications: word processing, data collection, email, and electronic assessment
- Driving to various buildings within the Diagnostician's assignment may be required. As such, a valid driver's license is required
