Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician

Location: Avonmouth
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week, Monday Friday)
Salary: £45,774 per annum

About the Opportunity

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician to join a leading Energy Recovery Facility based in Avonmouth.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled technician to take on a key role, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the plant s EC&I equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking maintenance, diagnostics, and improvement works, as well as supporting wider engineering functions across the facility.

You will also play a vital role in ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental standards.

This position includes participation in a 1-in-4 on-call rota to support urgent maintenance requirements, including during evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on EC&I systems across the plant.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis and corrective repairs to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Lead and deliver small improvement projects to boost plant reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Support the coordination and management of contractors on-site.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Accurately update and maintain Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Work from and interpret technical documents, including P&IDs and instrument loop drawings.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns as part of the on-call rota.

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential: Experience working within a steam-raising or power plant environment.
  • Strong background in EC&I engineering, ideally within the chemical, water, or power industries.
  • Instrumentation expertise, with complementary electrical skills.
  • Qualified to City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 / HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Familiar with DCS/SCADA systems.
  • Fully conversant with instrument loop drawings and P&IDs.
  • Logical and methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Holding a formal electrical qualification and 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification would be advantageous.
