Job Title: Bedford Middle School Cheer Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director/Building Principal
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The primary function of the Middle School Cheer Coach is to be in charge of all aspects of the Bedford Middle School cheer program and to work with the assistant coaches and the high school coaching staff to build a cohesive program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for all matters relating to the organization, administration, and philosophy of a middle school basketball program under his/her direction.
Serves in a leadership capacity in the cheer program.
Adheres to the middle school Athletic Coaches Handbook
Acts as a positive role model on and off the court/field/site, etc.
Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
Maintains competency in NLCS rules, event procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport.
Works cooperatively with all athletic directors, and students to ensure healthy and positive rivalries.
Monitor athlete development (academically and athletically)
Ensures that no bullying/hazing occurs in his/her sport.
Communicate effectively with parents/athletes in a timely/efficient manner
Be responsible for conducting any fundraisers desired as long as approved by the MS Athletic Director
Assist cheerleaders that want to cheer at Bedford North Lawrence
Checks with the Athletic Office on an individual athlete's eligibility. Enforces all rules of the NLCS & IHSAA related to his/her sport.
Oversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
Cooperates with the Athletic Director to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her physical examination card has been completed and his/her insurance coverage is in effect.
Enforces rules and regulations concerning the conditioning of players and their health and safety.
Reports injuries to the athletic trainer through personal communication and completing and submitting incident reports to the athletic trainer and Athletic Office.
Exercises great care in dealing with all injuries and particularly those that are of a serious nature. In all cases, the coach should assure that the injured athlete is receiving competent medical care. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, the coach should secure the signed approval of the doctor and parent before the athlete is allowed to participate again in athletic activities.
Provides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and/or site.
Ensures that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used.
Ensures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying, and intimidating language and behaviors.
Plans special events such as assemblies, team meals, awards banquet, other special recognition, etc.
Maintain an accurate inventory (uniforms, equipment)
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid teaching certificate and a bachelor's degree preferred.
First aid and CPR training preferred.
Extensive knowledge in the sport of cheerleading
Strong organization, leadership, and communication skills.
Knowledge of proper training and conditioning techniques and ability to implement.
