BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY: The Product Stewardship Supervisor will be a critical leader in the Environmental Compliance and Sustainability (EC&S) Department. This role focuses on ensuring MSC's products and facilities comply with environmental regulations and support the company's sustainability initiatives. The Supervisor will support environmental compliance activities, both regulated and unregulated, within MSC's supply chain operations and corporate facilities. This role has primary responsibility for ensuring that MSC has an appropriate knowledge and administration of environmental compliance and product stewardship regulations for markets MSC is selling and distributing. In addition, keeping aware of emerging regulations that will impact MSC and our customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Development:

• Lead, develop, and retain regional EC&S associates through training, coaching, goal setting, performance appraisals, and team building.

• Craft and execute action plans based on annual EC&S engagement survey results to achieve year-over year improvement.

Environmental Compliance and Product Stewardship:

• Act as a subject matter expert on environmental and sustainability matters across MSC operations.

• Implement EC&S policies, procedures, and programs to maintain compliance and reduce environmental risks enterprise-wide.

• Maintain a customer service mentality towards internal and external stakeholders, collaborating effectively with MSC business operations and facilities in long- and short-term strategic planning.

Regulatory Knowledge and Management:

• Stay informed about federal, state, and local environmental regulations affecting products purchased, sold, and distributed within the U.S. and internationally.

• Manage compliance with regulations such as Volatile Organic Compounds, Ozone Depleting Substances, U.S. Proposition 65, EPCRA Right to Know, Lead and Mercury restrictions, U.S. TSCA, RoHS, EU REACH, PFAS, Conflict Minerals, and GHS.

• Anticipate, communicate, and manage regulatory changes impacting existing product categories and new product introductions.

Hazardous Materials and Waste Management:

• Ensure compliance with federal (DOT) and international (IMDG, IATA, ADR, TDG) regulations for hazardous materials shipments.

• Facilitate compliance with hazardous material storage requirements at MSC locations.

Cross-Functional Support:

• Support cross-functional compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.

• Provide input to sales, legal, and category teams on RFIs, RFPs, contracts, agreements, and customer requests related to product and onsite support regarding compliance and environmental concerns.

• Partners with product/category teams to review environmental claims and understand the environmental impacts of MSC's products and services, including future circular economy/recycling considerations.

Product Information Management:

• Support the EC&S team's review and classification of entire product offering utilizing third-party resources to collect, store, interprets technical information needed to compliantly sell MSC products in our current and emerging markets.

• Coordinate with our Category Operations and Data Enablement teams in the enrichment of product attributes' data within our Product Information Management System (PIMS) to support our environmental compliance and product stewardship functions.

Sustainability Program Development:

• Support MSC's sustainability program goals, including energy and water usage, waste minimization, environmentally preferred product offerings, carbon footprint, and greenhouse gas reduction.

• Manage take-back and recycling regulations and product packaging requirements for recycled materials and content.

• Participates and supports development of potential environmental compliance and sustainability solutions to serve our customers.

• Prepares clear and concise reports for leadership on program activities and develops EC&S communications for distribution within the organization.

Compliance Schedule and Reporting:

• Develop and manage an environmental compliance schedule to assist with the evaluation, implementation, reporting, and training needed for various compliance programs.

• Such as Product Stewardship that include but are not limited to: DGIS and Haz-Shipper License, PHMSA Hazmat Registration, Product Classifications, State and Federal Reports (PERC, CA Plastic Bags, UOMA, RPRA Battery Exemption, etc.), customer Environmentally Preferable Product purchases, and sustainability framework submissions (e.g., CSA, MSCi, ISS, CDP, EcoVadis, etc.).

• Such as Site Facilities Management that include but are not limited to: Emergency Planning and Community Response Act (EPCRA); Recycling Programs (Canada PCA, Stewardship Ontario), e-Waste, Expired and/or damaged waste chemical sales.

• Ensure all required recordkeeping and reporting to support "cradle to grave" requirements for EC&S includes but is not limited to: EPA ID numbers; Generator Status; Site specific hazardous waste generation logs and internal inspection reports; Regulatory Agency Inspection reports; RCRA Hazardous Waste Manifests; Waste Characterizations and Profiles; Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR's); Exception Reports; Personnel training records; Incident reports; and other KPI data as necessary for Sustainability and Compliance Reporting.

Audits and Inspections:

• Plan and coordinate audits and inspections at MSC locations.

• Assist sites with corrective action plans and follow through to completion, auditing plans after implementation to ensure success.

• Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Establish and monitor EC&S program leading and lagging KPIs with stakeholder input for MSC corporate operations and supply chain facilities.

• Determine trends in compliance and productivity.

Special Projects and Additional Duties:

• Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

• Foster the MSC culture within the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC's mission.

• Travels to various locations to assist with achieving EC&S objectives (i.e. EPA, DOT, ESG, etc.) by implementing EC&S initiatives, auditing SOPs, and reviewing KPIs and reporting with CFC operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

What You Need:

• Bachelor's degree in environmental safety & health, Environmental Science, or related field with at least four years of relevant experience.

• Two years of experience managing associates or two years of project management experience is required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Excellent analytical, time management, financial, problem solving, leadership and networking skills.

• Maintains high-level technical accuracy while meeting strict deadlines.

• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations.
• Experience in writing technical policies and procedures.

• Project management and change management skills - delivering on time, on-budget and achieving high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

• Works cohesively and effectively in managing associates to deliver excellence in written/verbal communications, planning, documentation, organizing, and executing multiple tasks simultaneously.

• High-level interpersonal skills that presents a professional image when interacting with team members and internal/external customers.

• High level of proficiency in public speaking and presentation skills are required.

• Must be able to effectively utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

• Ability to manage large data sets, analyze data, and apply statistical analysis.

• Possesses high integrity and ethical standards.

• Proficiency with Microsoft software.

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Preferred: Master's degree.

• Recognized third-party certification is a plus.

• Three years of environmental compliance experience in distribution preferred.

• Previous experience with AS400 and SAP is preferred.

Other Requirements:

• A valid driver's license may be required.

• Position requires up to 20% of travel

Compensation starting at $72100 - $113300 depending on experience.

The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
