Leads multiple Department survey parties or oversees contracted survey parties for the purpose of determining boundaries and topography of real property or oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps; provides analysis and technical assistance, support, coordination and advice for the development, implementation and maintenance of land surveying-related information technology/systems (ITS/IS) and applications to include global positioning and geographic information systems (GPS/GIS). Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Land Surveyor ICoordinates surveying consultant's contractsIdentifies and defines parcels for use in transportation projects by using relevant elements of surveying, property description writing, mapping, law, research, measurement, analysis and computation.Performs drafting and/or design workTrains and instructs other survey personnelPerforms other job responsibilities as assignedLand Surveyor II - performs all of the above duties andReviews completed surveys to ensure accuracy and adherence to required specificationsMay serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverageLand Surveyor III - performs all of the above duties andDevelops guidelines, procedures and policies for district surveying activitiesReviews district and consultant survey procedures for compliance with department, state, and federal standards.Serves as liaison between TxDOT management, design staff and department or consultant survey crews.
