Join our team as a Public Transit Driver. As a driver, you'll be providing safe and reliable transportation for passengers by helping them reach their destinations. Qualified candidates will utilize standard defensive driving techniques, provide accessibility for disabled passengers to safely enter and exit the transit vehicle, properly operate accessibility lifts if applicable, and safely and appropriately secure passengers in a friendly, professional and courteous manner. Excellent customer service skills, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the vehicle, and knowledge of electronic devices or tablets are a must for this job opportunity.
Regional driver:(upper end of the pay range due to advanced responsibilities)
Requires long-distance driving, advanced vehicle handling, and strong GPS navigation skills. Able to adapt to changing routes, ensure passenger safety and comfort on extended trips, and manage complex transfers. Requires additional certifications and technical proficiency with tablets and scheduling software. Must live within 30 miles of the garage location.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Requires minimum of 2 years professional driving and customer service experience; prefer experience in a public transportation setting; computer or tablet skills required; equivalent combinations of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Licensing Requirements: A valid driver's license and a safe driving record required; CDL license preferred for regional driver, not required
Skills and Abilities: Candidates must have a strong knowledge of the geographical area and standard defensive driving techniques, along with the ability to read maps, follow routes, and maintain timely schedules. Compliance with DOT physical, drug screening, and background check requirements is essential, as is maintaining a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Successful candidates will possess critical thinking skills to solve problems and communicate effectively in English, with bilingual proficiency in Spanish preferred. Professionalism and excellent customer service are required to serve a diverse passenger base, along with proficiency in using mobile tablets, email, and cell phones.
Working Conditions:
Driving throughout East Texas - Daily
Weather extremes and temperatures driving through the region - Monthly occurrence; Noise from vehicle varying from road noise to passengers - Monthly occurrence.
Physical Exertion:
Sitting for extended periods of time
Twisting, pulling, pushing while loading clients in wheelchairs onto the lift and positioning them appropriately in the transit vehicle
Bending, kneeling, squatting in order to securely fasten clients to transit vehicle floor brackets
Climbing in and out of transit vehicle several times throughout the day to enter and exit the vehicle.
