In support of this vision and under administrative direction, the Diversity Program Coordinator assists small, diverse and veteran businesses and individuals with opportunities to grow and succeed through programs, training opportunities, strategic partnerships and activities. Implements programmatic and outreach efforts to ensure program targets are met and to promote a diverse business population. Represents the Tollway at major conferences and organizational functions. Assists in the planning, development and implementation of comprehensive program activities and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
Daily obligations of this position include, but not limited to:
• Collaborate in planning, directing, and executing policies and procedures for the Tollway's Diversity activities, encompassing programmatic and outreach support.
• Assist in the implementation of workforce development initiatives, technical assistance and mentor protégé programs within the Diversity department.
• Coordinate interactions and communications with senior program managers in the department, other internal departments, external stakeholders, and the public, through various channels including email, phone, media relations, and social media platforms.
• Organize and manage program-related meetings and events, ensuring smooth execution and participation.
• Utilize technological tools such as program management systems, data collection databases, video conferencing, and presentation software to streamline program operations maintaining accurate records of activities, outcomes, and feedback.
• Conduct independent research, participate in special projects, and collaborate with other departments or agencies on initiatives related to the Tollway's Diversity program.
• Develop surveys, gather feedback, and prepare comprehensive reports for senior program managers and other stakeholders.
• Represent the Illinois Tollway professionally at various committees and outreach events, presenting Diversity initiatives and fostering partnerships with businesses.
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with Chambers of Commerce, Civic Organizations, Agencies, Technical Assistance providers, Legislators, and businesses to promote diversity in procurement activities.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices by attending meetings, seminars, conferences, and workshops related to Diversity activities and operations.
• Assist in formulating and executing outreach strategies targeting internal and external stakeholders, state agencies, legislators, and the business community.
• Engage in programmatic efforts to ensure Diversity program targets are met and facilitate the growth of a diverse business population.
• Respond promptly and professionally to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
• Other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned. Qualifications
Education (Required):
• Requires knowledge, skill and professional development equivalent to completion of four years of college. Skills and Experience (Required):
• Requires three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or private organization.
• Familiarity with diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices.
• Previous experience in coordinating, supporting, and engaging in diversity programs, and activities.
• Excellent time management, resourcefulness and attention to detail with excellent follow-up.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to assist in the development and implementation of processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
• Strong adaptability to rapidly changing situations.
• Willingness to learn and work with minimum supervision.
• Proficiency in using CRM systems and other web-based technology, Microsoft Teams, Word, Access and Excel. Education (Preferred)
• Bachelor's degree in project management, Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related degree. Skills and Experience (Preferred)
• Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce, B2GNow, SAP, and e-Builder.
• At least 3 years recent experience with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) or other related diversity programs.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of construction industry federal, state, and local rules and regulations; public sector procurement and bidding procedures.
