District Supervisor of Instruction: Mathematics and Computer ScienceQualifications: - Valid New Jersey Supervisor, Principal, or School Administrator Certificate.
- Appropriate New Jersey Instructional Certification in Mathematics or Computer Science.
- Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development, curriculum integration, and application of technology across the curriculum.
- Ability to plan, organize, and administer department-level professional development.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. Citizenship/legal resident alien status.
Reports to: Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver, or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment.
Successful prior high school teaching experience in Computer Science or Mathematics is preferred.
Master's degree is required.
Performance Responsibilities:
Primary Function: Under the Direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, exercises leadership in staff and program development within the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments.
Evaluation: - Observes classroom teaching and works cooperatively with teachers for the purpose of improving instruction.
- Evaluates the performance of tenured and nontenured teaching staff members in accordance with State of New Jersey statutes NJAC 6:3 1.21, 6:3 1.19, Board policy, and procedures.
- Evaluates the performance of non-instructional staff members within assigned department(s) or area(s) in accordance with State of New Jersey statutes NJAC 6:3 1.21, 6:3 1.19, Board policy, and procedures.
- Confers with staff on the evaluation process.
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment: - Assumes leadership for curricular development and implementation and participates in the evaluation, revision, and implementation of curriculum as part of the District's Five-year curriculum revision process. Updates the Program of Studies as needed.
- As part of the curriculum revision process, recommends to the Director and superintendent the addition of new courses, grade placement and credit allowance, and graduation requirements, as appropriate.
- As part of the curriculum revision process, studies, evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends to the Director and superintendent the adoption of new instructional materials, methods and programs, including tutoring and remedial instruction.
- Assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the departmental instructional and assessment plan.
- Assists in developing and maintaining District and departmental goals and objectives.
- Exercises leadership in planning, directing, and implementing professional development programs and experiences.
- Promotes for instructional staff areas of professional improvement, including publications, programs of study, current research, conferences, school visitations, new trends and practices, and organizations designed to enhance teaching in the particular subject field.
- Monitors pupil progress within the department(s) and provides guidance and assistance in the development of methods of evaluating student achievement.
- Provides leadership in the development of the 9-12 instructional program and achievement of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district goals and objectives.
- Participates in the work of regional, state, and national curriculum study organizations and groups.
Management and Professional Responsibilities: - Prepares and manages the annual departmental budget.
- Requisitions, orders, and provides for the inventorying of instructional equipment and supplies.
- Assists the Principals with scheduling teachers and students.
- Assists the Principals with crisis management as requested.
- Assists with the implementation of standardized testing and other student assessments.
- Establishes guidelines for appropriate student course placement.
- Performs such other duties as are contained in the job description for classroom teachers except as they may be modified or superseded by any of the responsibilities above.
- Performs such other duties and fulfill such other responsibilities as are specifically assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment/Assistant Superintendent, or their designee.
Meetings and Committees: - Plans and conducts department meetings to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the departmental instructional program.
- Plans and implements presentations for the purpose of interpreting to the board of education, parents, and/or public at large departmental educational programs.
- Recruits instructional, and where appropriate, non-instructional staff (in conjunction with the Principals and Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment/Assistant Superintendent) for recommendation for hire to the Superintendent.
- Attends and participates CIA meetings, SOI meetings, Regional Curriculum Meetings, and District Curriculum & Technology Committee.
- Participates in other relevant committees and groups as desired and/or assigned.
Constructive Interaction with staff: - Cooperates and collaborates with the Supervisor of School Counseling, other Supervisors of Instruction, principals, assistant principals and staff.
- Cooperates and collaborates with the Director of Special Services and Supervisor of Special Programs in planning the instructional program and support services for special education pupils and other students with special needs.
- Cooperates and collaborates with the Regional Instruction and Curriculum Coordinator to help with K-12 subject area articulation and curriculum development.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Superintendent of Schools of the Pascack Valley Regional High School District shall recommend the applicant for employment and reemployment to the Board of Education. The appointee shall obtain tenure in accordance with the specifications established by the New Jersey Department of Education.
