Position Type: Administration Date Posted: 1/14/2025 Location: Child Nutrition Additional Information: Show/Hide Primary Purpose: Direct and manage district's gardens, certain beehives and fruit trees. Maximize the quality and yield of various garden crops, honey production and fruit harvest. Supervise all garden operations and staff. Maintain tools and equipment necessary for operations. Qualifications: Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of farming principles, land management, crop, beehive/fruit tree development and honey production Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions Ability to operate large mechanical equipment and harvest tools Ability to interpret data Ability to read blueprints and schematics Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: 3 years supervisory experience in agriculture/farm management 10+ years of verifiable gardening experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1.Ensure district's gardens are, productive, safe, and well maintained. 2.Inspect fields to determine crop maturity, condition, detect disease and insect issues. Direct cropoperations such as planning, tilling, planting, fertilizing, cultivating, spraying and harvesting. 3.Monitor activities such as irrigation, chemical application, planting and harvesting to ensureadherence to safety regulations. 4.Assist with fieldwork as needed. 5.Ability to operate standard farm equipment and harvest tools. 6.Serve as a liaison between garden operations and district campuses and cafeterias. 7. Work with the district's backpack program as necessary. 8. Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids. 9. Ensure compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. 10. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records. 11. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. 12. Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely. 13. Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies. 14. Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary. 15. Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies. 16. Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for operations. 17. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make position related recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. 18. Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and district requirements and develop a program of preventive safety. 19. Ensure equipment is maintained in optimum operating condition. 20. Participate in development of the district's disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed. 21.
