Job Summary

Distribution Clerk is under direct supervision, create customer orders pertaining to company operations; work related reports. Ensure that customer service work is being accounted for in various systems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and feedback manual orders to show work as completed when necessary in various systems. Create and/or reschedule orders as needed. Assist Assigners, Dispatchers, Engineers and Schedulers.
  • Contact customers in order to schedule and/or reschedule customer generated orders to determine if special conditions exist. Place courtesy calls and perform customer call-backs to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Investigate reasons for exceptions and create additional orders as necessary. Notify appropriate department(s) when feedback exceptions require action from other employees in order to be resolved. Notate customer accounts in CIS.
  • Accurately take emergency orders by telephone. Coordinate Emergency Locates. Accurately maintain Gas Leak information in various systems in a timely manner.
  • Receive customer, contractor and other utility company calls concerning running the services, lines and mains, and locating facilities ahead of the construction work. Receive and record City and County inspections. Investigate and update new business cases.
  • Report CGI (Couldn't Get In) conditions for SONP (Shut off Non Payment) activity. Process recalled orders and reschedule as necessary.
  • Complete Service Agreement Job Orders and Work Orders. Work with Damage Prevention Dept. and maintain Site Restoration Database.
  • Process Fire Investigations, Gas investigation field paperwork, Red Tags and all unsafe conditions. Work 12-month Lockout and Truck Stock Reports.
  • Maintain neat and orderly records and files.
  • Perform duties in accordance with NiSource's procedures, practices, safety rules, and established departmental expectations.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Direct the work of one or two employees assigned to assist.
  • Assist in the training of other employees.
  • Perform similar or less skilled work in this classification or, when the diversity of work load requires, perform similar or less skilled work in equal or lower classifications.
Required Qualifications for Position
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent, including courses in basic mathematics.
  • Six (6) months experience as an Operating Utility Clerk, or the equivalent.
