Distribution Team Lead - Hull

  • Hours: 4 days/week, 12-hour shifts on rotation (Day: 6am-6pm, Night: 6pm-6am)
Position Overview

Reporting to the Local Distribution Manager in Hull, the Team Lead will assist in the daily operational management of drivers at the Hull Liquid Bulk Terminal. The role involves providing EH&S, Transport, Operational, and Quality support to ensure efficient activities aligned with safety, quality, and service standards.

The main responsibilities include coordinating and providing well-trained Driver resources to meet customer and operational needs. The role may also involve basic HR activities, such as note-taking during meetings, and ensuring the terminal's transport operations comply with legislative and company standards. Additionally, the Team Lead will drive improvements in costs and compliance through key metrics.

Additional Responsibilities

This role requires out-of-hours support for other terminals nationwide, handling driver issues, reporting absences, and supporting scheduling and fleet teams. Proper handover documentation is essential when transitioning responsibilities back to local supervisors.

Accountabilities
  • Ensure safety standards and processes are maintained and comply with legislation.
  • Manage vehicle and driver compliance, including maintenance, defect reporting, tachograph records.
  • Supervise daily driver activities and coordinate holiday planning and resource availability.
  • Support disciplinary investigations and note-taking for hearings.
  • Plan and coordinate driver training (Driver CPC, ADR, refresher courses, assessments).
  • Coach drivers to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Suggest operational improvements.
  • Participate in vehicle accident responses.
  • Provide feedback on out-of-hours activities and shift summaries to management.
  • Maintain good industrial relations in collaboration with HR and supervisors.
  • Manage reports related to driver observations, vehicle conditions, customer complaints, and infringements.
  • Debrief infringements and review related videos.
  • Offer a support helpline for drivers when local supervision is unavailable.
  • Perform BSP activities as needed (TSOs, audits).
Candidate Profile
  • Experience in distribution and knowledge of transport legislation.
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Ability to build relationships with industrial relations representatives.
  • Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (preferred).
  • Driver Licence, ADR, and Driver CPC (preferred).
