Director, Virology
Comp: 200k - 240k DOE
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and lead the virology research strategy to support the discovery and development of innovative antiviral therapies.
- Develop, validate, and oversee a range of virology-based assays for target validation, compound screening, and mechanism-of-action studies.
- Drive research initiatives focused on viral pathogenesis, host-virus dynamics, and mechanisms of antiviral resistance.
- Manage and nurture collaborations with external research partners, including academic labs, CROs, and other biotech organizations.
- Collaborate closely with internal multidisciplinary teams across discovery and development to advance pipeline candidates.
- Support preclinical development activities, including contributions to regulatory filings and studies required for clinical advancement.
- Communicate scientific findings through internal presentations, external meetings, and scientific forums.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline, with 12+ years of relevant experience (or MS with 15+ years, or BS with 18+ years).
- A minimum of 10 years of hands-on virology research experience, with at least 5 years in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry setting.
- Deep expertise in antiviral research, including the development of assays, viral replication models, and understanding of host-virus interactions.
- Background in small molecule drug discovery, with a strong understanding of translational research principles.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing scientific teams and research projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Proven strategic thinking abilities and a successful track record of advancing early-stage research programs.
- Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working within and across functional teams.
