Job Summary

This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Success and Special Programs. The Director of the Upward Bound (UB) Program is responsible for the overall design, management, planning, and coordination of the federally funded TRIO program. While the program is housed at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, the UB program serves students Clayton county. The Director will facilitate the development of activities and programs designed to encourage underrepresented populations to overcome barriers to postsecondary education. This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority, CSA according the Clery Act.

Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Supervise all department staff.
  • Ensure all project goals and objectives are met.
  • Authorize expenditures of federal funds and monitor the budget frequently.
  • Provide an Annual Performance Report to the Department of Education.
  • Select and hire full-time and part-time staff.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including trainings, conferences, and related events.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with campus representatives, U.S. Department of Education, target schools faculty and administrations, and community agencies.

Financial Management:

  • Manage the budget and ensure proper implementation.
  • Make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Manage or administer grant funds.
  • Accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Prepare and/or process purchase orders.

Curriculum and Program Development:

  • Assist with grant writing
  • Plan and design curriculum assessments and evaluations to assist with academic performance.
  • Oversee planning of all cultural activities and residential opportunities.
  • Design promotional literature for programs.

Student Services:

  • Recruit, identify, screen, and select eligible students.
  • Serve as the liaison to target school administrators.
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's degree in education, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education Administration, Business, Technology or a or related field is required for this position

Required Experience
Minimum five (5) or more years of experience in a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior experience in supervising and evaluating staff and work task objectives
Prior experience writing grants and executing grant requirements.

Experience in writing reports, compiling, and disseminating student data.

Experience in program planning and development

Experience in budget management.

Experience working with teachers, administrators, and staff.

Must be able to develop informational and motivational virtual and in-person presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Clery Disclosure

This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As a CSA, the employee will have specific responsibilities to report any Clery Act qualifying crimes that they are made aware of to the institution's designated office. CSA duties include promptly reporting incidents and cooperating with Clery Act compliance efforts, including attending required training.
