Position Overview

The Director, Safety, Operations & Engineering is responsible for leading teams in developing technical programs and services that benefit natural gas utilities. The role involves serving as a leader for committees and task groups under AGA's Operating Section, and contributing to the Enhanced Peer Review Program, which enables utilities to evaluate each other on various operational topics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AGA's peer review processes among member companies.
  • Organize and facilitate industry workshops, conferences, roundtables, and webinars, including developing agendas, coordinating speakers, managing logistics, and delivering presentations.
  • Develop publications, industry position papers, and comments on proposed regulations in collaboration with staff and member representatives.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, especially pipeline safety regulations.
  • Guide internal teams and members in creating strategies, conducting research, and producing technical documents to support AGA positions.
  • Identify opportunities for non-dues revenue through educational events, publications, and partnerships.
  • Mentor colleagues and team members.
  • Collaborate with technical and advocacy committees to shape AGA's positions on high-priority issues.
  • Manage budgets for designated areas.
  • Maintain relationships with government agencies, standards bodies, research groups, and industry associations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in natural gas operations, such as distribution, transmission, or LNG.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in organizing major workshops and delivering public presentations.
  • Strong facilitation skills and ability to work on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% domestically and work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or equivalent experience.

Work Environment & Compensation

This position is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). The salary range is $139,870 to $189,236 annually, based on experience and internal equity. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and educational assistance.
