We are seeking an experienced Senior Counsel at the Director level to join our legal team. This role requires a diverse skill set across clinical operations/development and contracts/legal operations. The ideal candidate will possess substantive legal knowledge in the biotech/pharmaceutical sector, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to managing complex legal challenges and opportunities.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Expertise:
    • Provide comprehensive legal support for Madrigal's R&D organization, in partnership with Compliance.
    • Review and advise on Clinical Trial Agreements (CTAs), confidentiality agreements, Master Service Agreements (MSAs), general services and licenses, Sponsored Research Agreements (SRAs), Investigator Initiated Studies (ISSs), collaborations, and other research projects.
    • Offer guidance on clinical-related legal issues, including publications, regulatory inspections and regulatory compliance.
    • Collaborate with clinical operations and clinical development, develop a strong understanding of their objectives, and act as a partner for their teams.
    • Work with internal teams and external partners to negotiate, draft, and review agreements, ensuring they meet the organization's objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Contracts and Legal Operations:
    • Manage the full lifecycle of contracts, including drafting, negotiating, and executing a wide range of agreements to support the organization's general R&D, commercial and medical activities.
    • Lead operations related to contracts, including refining and managing the contract policy and overseeing the development and operation of the enterprise contract management system.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Preferred: 5-7 years or more of legal experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic, proactive legal advice.
  • Proven ability to execute on complex projects and lead them to successful completion.
  • Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a track record of building effective relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation:

Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
