We're searching for a Director of Quality & Safety, someone who's ready to be part of the best ranked children's hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, planning, direction and execution of the Quality and Safety program supported by the Chief and Associate Chief Quality officers and the Chief Safety officer. The Quality and Safety program is focused on improving the outcomes of care, patient safety, decreasing preventable harm and monitoring/improving the ongoing performance of care providers. Collaborate with system leaders on performance improvement initiatives and activities. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and agencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct the development, implementation, and growth of the Quality and Safety department and program in collaboration with the Chief and Associate Chief Quality Officers and Chief Safety Officers. Ensure appropriate resources to support development and growth in collaboration with executive leadership in Quality and Safety. Mentor and develop Quality and Safety staff by providing growth opportunities focused on performance improvement, safety principles and formal and informal leadership.
  • Support and oversee the continued advancement of an organizational culture of safety through the implementation and continuous refinement of evidenced based best practices related to safety which includes but is not limited to executive culture rounds, safety coaches, culture of safety surveys, unit based rounding, and active participation in Solution for Patient Safety improvement initiatives. Ensure the performance of cause analysis, action planning for improvement related to cause analysis and follow-up related to action planning.
  • Oversee the development, participation, and coordination of teams focused on reducing preventable harm for patients and workforce through the establishment of performance improvement teams, implementation of evidenced based prevention strategies and monitoring of process and outcome measures. Work with team leaders, operational leaders and key stakeholders to achieve quality goals. Evaluate team effectiveness regularly as well as annually and adjust as needed.
  • Promote the development and assist in the coordination of performance improvement projects that improve patient care across the organization. Encourage multidisciplinary collaboration. Work with operational and clinical leaders to educate on improvement methodologies and appropriate process and outcomes measures. Ensure alignment within the quality structure.
  • Establish, maintain and develop effective collaborative working relationships with all levels of leadership across the system, direct and indirect reports, and physicians to foster open communication and ensure the achievement of organizational and departmental goals. Assure a positive customer experience with the Quality and Safety department when services are utilized by others outside the department.
  • Provide oversight and direction for completion of event specific professional practice review and ongoing professional practice evaluation. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards and legal requirements.
  • Provide fiscal management of departmental budget and operations. Oversee operations related to budgeting, position/staff management, grants, and contracts. Report financial performance to executive leadership at established intervals.
  • Assure Quality Committee structure is intact and facilitates agendas and meetings that support Quality Strategies and organizational goals.
  • Support the patient safety culture program of the organization by assuring required assessments are performed on time and appropriate goals are developed.
  • As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree Nursing, health care administration, or a related field and master's degree Nursing, health care administration, or a related field required
  • RN - License Registered Nurses
  • 5 years quality improvement and outcomes experience, including at least 2 years of formal leadership experience required
