A dynamic and growing energy company is seeking a Director of Operations Accounting to serve as a key strategic leader. This role acts as the primary liaison between operational leadership and the corporate accounting team, playing a critical role in managing both day-to-day financial operations and long-term planning efforts.
This position reports to the senior finance leadership and oversees the financial activities across US sites. You'll lead a geographically distributed team, managing operational and capital expense functions, and contributing to both tactical execution and strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate accounting, forecasting, and reporting activities across several key operating facilities and logistics assets
- Lead and support a team of site-based Accounting Managers and their teams
- Oversee the budgeting process for operational sites
- Monitor and guide monthly close processes for operational locations
- Oversee inventory accounting processes, including volume tracking and yield analysis
- Collaborate with operations leadership to analyze financial performance, forecast accuracy, and variance explanations
- Drive improvements in site-level accounting practices to support efficiency and reduce close timelines
- Ensure balance sheet integrity through accurate reconciliation and oversight during close cycles
- Partner with procurement to streamline end-to-end purchasing and payment workflows
- Provide senior leadership with ad hoc analysis, financial modeling, and decision-support reports
- Stay attuned to the business environment to help assess future financial risks and opportunities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA, MBA, or equivalent credentials preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within refining or chemical manufacturing.
- Proven experience managing site-based accounting or finance teams
- Track record of successfully leading process improvement and optimization initiatives
- Proficiency in SAP and advanced Excel capabilities
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel quarterly to domestic operational sites
- Prior experience managing leaders and developing high-performing teams is strongly preferred
