SUMMARY The Director of Volunteer Services is responsible for development and oversight of the volunteer program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Develops and implements Recruitment Plan to ensure quantity of volunteers available to meet the needs of organizational activities including entire service area and inpatient facilities.
- Promotes involvement of volunteers as a member of IDT for each Alive Hospice patient.
- Ensures representation and participation of Volunteer Services staff at all clinical team meetings.
- Promotes utilization of volunteers in all Alive Hospice services.
- Oversees program activities including support, feedback and supervision of volunteers including performance evaluations.
- Ensures volunteer clinical documentation in patient charts
- Pursues strong collaborative relationships with other department leaders and employees.
- Promotes understanding of hospice philosophy and Alive Hospice policies among volunteers.
- Ensures prompt response and follow-up to inquiry calls by potential volunteers.
- Coordinates volunteer trainings to meet the needs of volunteers, organization and Joint Commission standards.
- Screens potential volunteers for appropriateness.
- Reviews and updates Volunteer Services procedures on a regular basis.
- Remains current on applicable Joint Commission standards and monitors adherence.
- Ensures volunteer personnel files remain current per Alive Hospice procedure.
- Prepares annual budget and is accountable for program expenses.
- Manages Volunteer Services staff including professional development and documentation of performance as required by Medicare.
- Maintains documentation of and reports volunteer hours to leadership team.
- Constantly enhances Volunteer Services to meet the needs of volunteers, patients, families, staff and community.
- Coordinates educational activities for volunteers.
- Develops relationships with volunteers and encourages involvement with organization.
- Promotes diversity among volunteers.
- Maintains visibility of program within the organization; encourages employees to recruit volunteers.
- Participates in management and department meetings.
- Coordinates volunteer recognition activities.
- Ensures that all Medicare regulations and State and Federal laws are met by Volunteer Services.
- Networks and maintains relationships with key contacts in the community.
- Makes presentations and represents Alive Hospice in the community.
- Establishes relationships to exchange ideas and promote benchmarking.
- Addresses questions/concerns.
- Remains current on issues and trends in volunteer industry.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises the Volunteer Services staff and volunteers. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
CONTINUING EDUCATION The agency requires this position to complete 15 hours of continuing education per year covering topics that will contribute to improvements in carrying out the above responsibilities. Regulatory agencies may require some disciplines to have additional hours in order to be licensed or certified.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree; two years management experience, program development volunteer experience and/or education preferred.
