Position Summary:
The Director of Veterinary Medicine (Medical Director) will lead the medical operations of our Kalamazoo emergency veterinary facility.
This role combines clinical excellence with strategic leadership, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care, mentoring team members, and driving continuous improvement.
The Medical Director will also play a pivotal role in establishing this newly built, state-of-the-art ER facility as a trusted resource for pet owners in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medical Leadership: Oversee all medical operations, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of veterinary care.
- Clinical Duties: Work eight clinical shifts per month, encompassing day, swing, and night shifts as needed during the startup phase.
- Mentorship and Training: Mentor veterinarians and staff, provide training on medical standards, and foster a learning-oriented environment.
- Operations Management: Collaborate with the Practice Manager to develop schedules, workflows, and training programs to ensure efficient operations.
- Compliance: Maintain and oversee regulatory compliance, including licensing, DEA, and pharmaceutical protocols.
- Surgical Proficiency: Perform and supervise emergency surgeries and procedures as required by patient needs.
- Client Care: Support veterinarians in providing compassionate, customized care solutions for clients and their pets.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Licensure in the state of Michigan or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start.
- Minimum of 10 years of clinical veterinary experience, preferably with some leadership exposure.
- Strong surgical skills and comfort working in a fast-paced emergency environment.
- Passion for mentoring and supporting team members in their professional growth.
