Position Summary & Objectives

The Director of Therapy Services supervises the Occupational and Physical Therapy staff who, under physician prescription, evaluate and treat patients of all ages. The Director is responsible for overall supervision, coordination and administration of the department activities. The Director is expected to follow clinic philosophy in administering department services and fulfilling community needs.

Essential Functions
  1. Acts as a liaison between Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Administration, Medical Staff, and the community representing the department at professional meetings.
  2. Maintains a staff of sufficient number to effectively provide quality care for patients of all ages.
  3. Trains new personnel.
  4. Provides opportunity for development and professional growth of staff.
  5. Evaluates professional and non-professional services supplied by the department.
  6. Coordinates Therapy Services with other specialties.
  7. Maintains records and reports concerning department financial status. Prepares information for yearly budget.
  8. Conducts annual staff performance evaluations.
  9. Provides direct care to patients of all ages, as needed.
  10. Is responsible for remaining current in therapy trends and new developments.
  11. Promotes a safe and clean environment for staff and patients of all ages, through in-service education.
  12. Conducts regular staff meetings.
  13. Conducts marketing activities to promote referrals.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of best practices in the therapy space
  • Knowledge of therapy services and its direct impact on the practice's finances
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Skill in training a variety of users on therapy processes and programs.
  • Skill in effective interpersonal skills and communication methods.
  • Skill in effective written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to effectively set expectations with stakeholders and to communicate when needed.

Equipment Operated

Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment

The position is in well-lighted, well ventilated office environment.

Education / Experience / Licenses / Certifications

Required
  • The Director of Therapy Services must be a graduate of an approved school of Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy, with a Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree
  • Must be currently licensed in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy
  • Must have three to five years of clinical experience with at least one year of supervisory experience

Preferred (in addition to Required)
  • Previous experience in a management or leadership role within a healthcare organization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards related to rehabilitation services.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare finance and budgeting principles.
  • Certification in healthcare management is desirable, but not required.

Position Type & Expected Work Hours

This is a full-time position, with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or other approved hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Occasional extended work hours may be required as business needs demand. Some employees in this position may be scheduled to work weekend shifts.

Chief Operations Officer

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises the Therapy Services team that support OrthoAlaska.

Travel Requirements

Some travel expected on occasion; up to 10% travel

Remote Work

Eligible for hybrid work in some cases
