Position InformationThe Director of Medical Student Support and Wellness serves as a key member of the Student Affairs team at the UCR School of Medicine, providing leadership and oversight of wellness initiatives and confidential counseling services for medical and graduate students. This position is responsible for developing and managing support programs that foster academic success, emotional well-being, and professional growth, with a focus on at-risk and diverse student populations.
The Department of Student Affairs at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR SOM) is dedicated to fostering the academic, professional, and personal development of medical students. Through a comprehensive suite of services, the department aims to support students throughout their medical education journey.
This position will be fully onsite during the position's probationary period. Then, it may be eligible to transition to a hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Additionally, flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends is required to support various SOM activities, as well as availability before 8:00 a.m. and/or after 5:00 p.m. to accommodate student appointments.
The full salary range for the Director of Medical Student Support and Wellness is from $73,600 - $133,200 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $103,400 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Education Education Requirements- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
- Advanced degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related areas. (Preferred)
License Requirements- Current CA license as a mental health provider, LCSW, LPCC, MFT or psychologist. (Preferred)
Experience Requirements- Experience working with diverse populations including diversity in race, ethnic groups, sexual orientation, gender identify, religion, ability, socio-economic status and first generation college students. (Required)
- 6 - 10 years of related experience. (Required)
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in supervising FTE positions. (Required)
- Experience providing counseling in a higher education setting. (Preferred)
- Previous experience working with graduate or medical school students. (Preferred)
Minimum RequirementsProven track record in exercising discretion and effective judgement in decision-making processes. Knowledge in the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring and advocacy. Knowledge and experience in working with historically underrepresented ethnic minority communities, first generation college students. Advanced experience in group dynamics, facilitation, and training; comprehensive assessment of academic preparation and personal competencies. Advanced experience in planning, developing, and administering enrichment programs/projects, academic and personal development seminars, courses, and workshops. Knowledge and experience in managing funds designated for special programs. Experience in establishing and implementing short and long term program goals and objectives; demonstrated effectiveness in mediation and conflict resolution. Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Extensive experience in multicultural competencies, and personal and academic crisis intervention; working with students to assist in clarification of ethics and values. High degree of independent decision-making and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to prioritize competing needs and tasks from students, faculty, staff and campus partners. Skill in projecting and monitoring a budget for program implementation. Demonstrated competencies and advanced knowledge in theories of multicultural counseling, learning, identity development, human and career development. Ability to implement appropriate support services and accommodations based on documentation appropriate for students with learning and psychological disabilities. Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Assembly Bill 746 as they pertain to students with LD, ADHD, ABI and psychological disabilities. Excellent oral communication, public speaking and written communication skills.
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of academic curricula; strong knowledge of the organizational climate, structure/organizations, and culture. Background in learning theory, and innovative use of technology in educational settings. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports; extensive experience in developing evaluative instruments specific to programs/projects goals and objectives. Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, and administering evaluative instruments for measuring program effectiveness. Advanced knowledge of research methodologies and research designs. Experience in student affairs in higher education and supporting student life including programming such as community building events, student retreats, school-wide activities, and student organization activities.
