Open Date

Description

The Sheedy Family Program in Economy, Enterprise and Society (SFP) is a selective, cohort-based program that serves students whose academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of business and the liberal arts. Housed in the College of Arts and Letters, the SFP provides its students with an intellectually rigorous, dialogue-based community built on a shared curriculum, signature experiential learning opportunities, and the resources necessary to engage in purpose-driven network building and career discernment.

The Director of Student Engagement (DSE) will join the SFP as it expands the scope of its programs and increases the number of students to be served through them. They will split their time evenly (50/50) between teaching courses that promote the mission of the SFP and designing, creating, running, and administering programs to make this expansion possible.

The primary administrative responsibilities will consist in the creation and administration of a new program, the Sheedy Business Explorers, which will serve 60-100 first year A&L students. With the guidance and support of the current directors, the DSE will recruit students into this program, design its curriculum, and oversee the instructional team that delivers it. The DSE will also find ways to engage alumni and friends of the Sheedy Family Program by administering the annual Dinner and Dialogue speaker series, and cultivating an active Sheedy alumni network to support and advance the mission of the program both on and beyond its activities at the University. Finally, the DSE will oversee the expansion of existing experiential learning opportunities, like the annual Sheedy Business Trek, and the creation of new ones, like potential summer study abroad experiences.

The DSE's Teaching responsibilities will include instruction related to the Sheedy Business Explorers program, as well as opportunities to teach courses related to the core themes of the Sheedy Family Program in the disciplinary/topical area of his or her expertise. Along with all faculty in the Sheedy Family Program, the DSE will advise, mentor, and advocate for students in our distinctive intellectual community.

The position will be split 50% teaching, 50% administration (program direction, experiential learning).
