Director of Project Controls Engineering Project Delivery (EPD)


What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this role EPD is a framework that enables consistent, reliable and successful delivery of our capital portfolio, within internal business processes, to ensure compliance.


The Director of EPD is an integral leader within the Engineering Organization and will be working closely across Amgen global functions and external partners, using our internal audit control points to continuously monitor the health and compliance of our projects throughout their development lifecycle. This is a global function and will report into the Project Controls and Strategy Organization.


The successful candidate is expected to be highly detailed oriented with excellent analytic and problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, train, and manage a diverse team of resources.


This position will be located within driving distance from Amgen sites in the US, preferably Thousand Oaks


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and enhance the Engineering Project Delivery (EPD) Framework
  • Lead EPD and Compliance for Capital Projects, overseeing internal and external audits
  • Own and develop EPD processes, standards, and guidelines for Engineering functions
  • Lead all aspects of tools and systems (Templates, e-Builder, Power BI, PPM solution) for capital portfolio delivery
  • Facilitate EPD process improvements with compliance metrics and random audits to ensure adherence
  • Drive global network alignment on Engineering processes to boost performance
  • Lead the Engineering Projects Global Team (EPGT) for global collaboration and continuous improvements
  • Support Engineering Digital Transformation in capital planning and project/portfolio management
  • Contribute to annual Training Assignment Portfolio (TAP) assessments
  • Develop and train cross-functional teams on Engineering Project Delivery Processes
  • Maintain excellent communication skills and strong executive presence
  • Foster innovation within the Engineering organization by contributing to submissions to Excellence in Operations and Innovation Awards.
  • Support Operations capital portfolio management from budget and prioritization perspectives
  • Maintain purposeful presence across Amgen sites ( 30% travel required)
  • Lead project metrics and performance reviews
  • Facilitate strategy and goal sessions for the department
  • Advance principles of lean construction within capital projects

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 4 years of Engineering and capital projects delivery experience

Or

Masters degree & 7 years of Engineering and capital projects delivery experience

Or

Bachelors degree & 9 years of Engineering and capital projects delivery experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 + years of experience in Engineering, Project Development/Execution, Finance with focus on capital projects
  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Advance degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills; can work across the matrix including project teams to senior leaders within Engineering and Manufacturing as well as all levels of the organization that may be involved in ensuring compliance of our capital portfolio
  • Strong executive presence
  • Strong collaborator, problem solver and solution oriented
  • Extremely organized and thinks strategically to support key business decisions
  • Strong understanding of internal audit a plus

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
