The Director of Nursing is responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the facility. Assumes responsibility as Department Manager of OR/PACU/PAT/PREOP Departments. The DON is also responsible for the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Program. As a Registered Nurse, the DON is also responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform the clinical care responsibilities of a registered nurse
  • Assess, plan, and deliver safe patient care according to facility policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates appropriate and continued knowledge and competence of designated nursing skills
  • Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and clinical practice
  • Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care

Leadership Responsibilities

Personnel - Clinical

  • Analyzes nursing care provided in the facility related to the established standards of care
  • Leads and attends clinical education, facility training and development workshops scheduled by the facility
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual clinical competencies for all clinical staff
  • Responsible for required event trainings including but not limited to Adult/pediatric codes, disaster drills, and MH drills
  • Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of nursing care provided
  • Maintains accurate records and oversee the purchase of medications for the facility
  • Monitors the documentation of nursing care and physicians' orders according to facility policy and best practice guidelines
  • Responsible for infection control, standard precautions, and universal precautions for the center
  • Leads ongoing clinical skills improvement training and initiatives

Personnel - Managerial

  • Responsible for establishing an engaged and positive team culture
  • Interviews, selects, and retains qualified staff to meet facility needs
  • Participate in staff orientation and onboarding process
  • Maintains certification requirements and required evidence of certification and licensure of all team members of the facility
  • Generates performance standards, performs performance reviews, and implements performance improvement plans
  • Responsible for the coordination, staffing ratios and scheduling of the nursing care provided in the facility
  • Assigns patient care responsibilities based on patient needs, abilities of staff and facility policy
  • Supervises center personnel to assure maximum productivity and quality of patient care
  • Responsible for direction, teaching, and managerial growth of other clinical leaders
  • Responsible for interpretation, in-service education, implementation, and compliance with OSHA guideline to assure minimal exposure for patients, staff, physicians, and visitors

General

  • Responsible as the primary clinical contact for surgeons and physician shareholder
  • Advances the continued growth of the facility through identification and implementation of initiatives
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement focused on operational efficiency, patient safety, case volume, surgeon and staff satisfaction, and patient experience.
  • Oversees day-to-day and future state scheduling and case coordination activities
  • Responsible for ongoing accreditation programs in areas of Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control, facility, and fire safety.
  • Oversees the Quality and Risk programs of the center including evaluation and assessment, improvement initiatives and reporting to the governing body
  • Responsible for advancing and maintaining the facility Safety Program
  • Demonstrates complete understanding and ability to educate others on the established emergency procedures for facility
  • Represents the facility during interactions with all patients, families, and visitors ensuring a positive and professional environment
  • Engages as the lead point of contact and communication for vendors engaging the facility including, medical device, equipment, and supply
  • Actively participates in creating, communicating, and upholding policies as required by the facility, governing and accrediting bodies.
  • Responsible for the planning, preparation, ongoing maintenance, and day-of activities for AAAHC accreditation
  • Actively participates in the preparation and execution of Medical Executive Committee activities and meetings
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the requirements and functionally of all elements of life safety within the facility
  • Participates in the development of budgeting and planning including staffing, equipment, and inventory
  • Demonstrates and oversees sound cost containment techniques.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Ambulatory Surgery Center revenue cycle process, reimbursement, and case costing

Supervisory Responsibility:


• This position supervises employees.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care
  • Ability to manage a multitude of priorities
  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise, and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, teammates, physicians, other healthcare workers, etc.
  • Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.

Work Environment:

  • General pleasant working environment with little or no distractions or exposure to unpleasant or hazardous elements.
  • Meets all safety training requirements associated with the Surgical Center.
  • Indoor Climate Controlled Environment
  • Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate
  • Additionally, this job operates in a professional, clinical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires mobility, frequent walking, standing, and sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching and periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and clinical equipment
  • Requires normal (corrected) vision and hearing

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday and may vary depending on location hours and company schedu
