Our Health Center Locations: Brick, Freehold, Lakewood, Little Egg Harbor, Manahawkin, Manchester and Toms River; with our school-based Wellness Programs located within the Clifton Ave Grade School, Lakewood; and Lakewood High School.
OHI services include family and internal medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, nutrition, OB/GYN women's health, dental, family planning, specialty care, pharmacies, PrEP, and a STI clinic.

Position SummaryReporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Director of Nursing (DON) administers and facilitates nursing services at Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI). Is responsible for the direction, provision and quality of all clinically related services provided to patients of OHI. Will serve as an adviser to the CMO on all matters pertaining to clinical needs. Actively participates and takes a leadership role in quality assurance and utilization review. In the above capacities, always interprets and supports the purposes, philosophy, and objectives of OHI as well as FQHC's and Community Health Centers in general. Works collaboratively with Regional Practice Directors (RPD) at all sites.
Responsibilities- Oversees the standards and practices for the organization's clinical nursing services.
- Works with the CMO for the development of patient care programs, policies and procedures to meet requirements for all regulatory bodies.
- Using the Scorecard process will complete ongoing performance evaluations of RNs, LPNs, MA's.
- Maintain an effective and ongoing program to measure, monitor, assess, and improve the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, treatment, and services delivered to patient.
- Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with regulatory and credentialing agencies.
- Disseminates OHI policy and procedures to ensure uniform delivery of services.
- Reviews and updates clinical policies and procedures regularly to assure consistency with the law and practice standards. This includes establishing, implementing and signing off on clinical competencies for the clinical staff (RN's, LPN's, MA's) in alignment with DOH ambulatory care regulations.
- Responsible for coordinating education, training and ongoing development for the clinical departments (RN, LPN and MA), including externships.
- Trains and mentors the RN's, LPN's, and CMA's. Assesses clinical qualifications and develops programs enabling the clinical staff to meet and exceed their required competency levels. In collaboration with the Director of Education will initiates in-service programs.
- Maintains professional competence through participating in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
- Collaboratively manages assignment of the clinical ancillary staff with the practice directors.
- Responsible for taking appropriate disciplinary action with staff when necessary.
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees which influence or determine policies affecting nursing practice.
- Provides oversight and interpretation of concurrent record review and other performance improvement activities that evaluate the effectiveness of nursing services. Performs ongoing chart reviews to ensure quality of care.
- Interprets statutes and regulations that impact nursing.
- Collaborates with other health care providers to provide comprehensive, integrated services.
- Collaborates with community and government health agencies in identifying service needs and works with CMO to develop service plans to assist in meeting community health care needs.
- Maintain accurate consistent reporting of ILI (Influenza Like Illness) and submits the data to NJDHSS.
- Work effectively with VFC and VFA government programs, and maintain proper NJIIS training of the clinical staff and assigned vaccine coordinators.
- Collaborate with QA department to continuously improve the quality measures and delivery of safe and effective services to patients.
- Provide strong clinical leadership and assurance to the clinical staff in achieving quality standards.
- Provides comprehensive monthly report to CMO, including QI metrics, staff productivity and synopsis of score card feedback, as well as challenges/achievements in the department.
- Works with practice director to assesses staff utilization and needs. Makes recommendations, as necessary, to provide adequate coverage for the provision of services to improve quality.
- Participates in recruitment, selection and retention of clinical ancillary staff.
- Maintains an active awareness of the clinical staffing patterns in relation to safe and effective treatment and budgetary goals and is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of staffing plan.
- Plan and implement strategies and takes part in the company's overall strategic decisions, ensuring that his/her allotted department is working in accordance with such goals.
- Consistently acknowledges and appreciates each team member's contributions.
- Effectively utilizes each team member to his/her fullest potential.
- Motivates team to work together in the most efficient manner.
- Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members. PDSA the process.
- Performs rounds to monitor the conditions and care of patients.
- Participates in OHI collaboratives, performance improvement activities or other clinical initiatives.
- Complies with risk management and corporate compliance as outlined in OHI corporate compliance manual.
- Completes all mandatory in-services and attends required meetings.
- Works collaboratively with all members of the Senior Management and Management Teams to resolve departmental and organizational challenges expeditiously, economically, professionally and with minimum disruption to the practice.
- Leads and manages staff by professional example.
- Is highly accountable for one's own productivity. In order to maintain transparency, all projects must be represented clearly on a project board in Responsible for ensuring the board is always updated and accurate and that information is accessible to those that need it.
- Adheres to Corporate Compliance policies.
- Maintains a passing monthly scorecard threshold at 80%.

Education/Experience/Licensure- Bachelor Degree in Nursing is required.
- Master Degree in Health Care Administration is preferred.
- Three to five years in administrative supervisory experience in a related health care field, preferably ambulatory care setting.
- Active State of New Jersey RN License is required.
- Active BLS Provider Certification through the American Heart Association is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 preferred.
Special Skills and Knowledge- Current knowledge of state and federal nursing regulations (FQHC preferred).
- Ability to prepare clear, concise reports.
- Knowledge of needs of client populations and treatment sources.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret practice standards, professional journals and government regulations.
- Skill in reviewing clinical work of others according to professional standards and practice guidelines.
- Extensive knowledge of professional nursing theory, standard nursing protocol and the legal implications of nursing practice, including relevant statutes and regulations.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice and its application in the promotion of healthy outcomes.
- Knowledge of basic management and public administration principles and practices.
- Extensive level of knowledge/ability to obtain knowledge of community resources available to clients.
Abilities- Considerable ability to establish, interpret and implement policies, procedures and treatment plans in accordance with program/OHI and state/federal standards.
- Considerable ability to assess type and amount of nursing services required, selecting priorities, planning schedules and assigning tasks.
- Is aware of general contents of OHI's emergency operations plan.
- Identifies role in emergency preparedness and response.
- Identifies OHI's chain of command and management system for emergency response.
- Participates in bioterrorism and emergency preparedness drills.
