Overview The Director of Nursing (DON) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the nursing department. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, compliance with healthcare regulations, and the effective management of nursing staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Participates in hiring of nursing staff employees. Participate in onboarding staff through orienting, training, assigning employees; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions, and adhering to policies and procedures. Approval of nursing time off requests and staff timecards every other week for payroll. Manage nursing staff schedules to make certain all necessary duties are covered daily and that absent staff have adequate coverage. Will evaluate all nursing staff quarterly and complete annual formal nursing staff evaluations and Identify learning opportunities for nursing staff. Develops nursing staff protocols and daily workflows with goals of improving efficiency, productivity and clinical quality by assuring nursing and support staff work to the highest level of their licensure to allow for more efficient use of medical provider time and improved productivity. Develop workflows to coordinate closure of patient visits by clinical staff with education and follow up done after provider time to improve communication and follow up for patients and to improve use of medical provider time and efficiency. Assist Risk Manager as requested with investigation and management of all Incident Reports and needed Disciplinary action involving nursing staff, in coordination with HR. Monitors and evaluates nursing staff collection and documentation of UDS measures, to assure that necessary data is collected and recorded appropriately, develops workflows and systems of measurement to assure this is done consistently. Assist with monitoring of medical provider scheduling, to be sure this is optimized to improve productivity. Communicates with Operations Manager to assure schedules are filled and managed appropriately. Oversees and supervises the scheduling and delivery of medical services to within Ravalli County via the Mobile Medical Unit. Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories. Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations. Coordinates and oversees all vaccine services. Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; monitor storage and supplies. Coverage for absent nursing staff and provides direct patient care as needed. Supervisory responsibilities: Will supervise and evaluate performance of all RNs, LPNs, MAs, CNAs, and Phlebotomists. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; RN or LPN license required. 3 years of supervisory experience in nursing environment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Prior experience and success leading a clinical team preferred.
