Position Summary: The Director of Nursing manages and evaluates all nursing services throughout the agency, ensuring the delivery of
high-quality care. This role is responsible for overseeing the supervision, training, and performance of nursing staff, as well as collaborating with medical service providers and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The Director of Nursing leads various initiatives, such as infection control, nursing quality improvement, and staff development, while actively promoting a whole-person care philosophy. They play a key role in budget management, resource allocation, and strategic planning to optimize patient care across the agency.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
• Directs nursing services to assure achievement of nursing care standards.
• Establishes and maintains guidelines for staffing within the agency to assure adequate nursing coverage for
all client areas.
• Supervises and evaluates the work of the nursing staff; effectively recommends personnel actions related to
selection, disciplinary procedures, performance, work schedules and assignments, and administers
personnel and related policies and procedures.
• Coaches, mentors, and tutors nursing staff in the business of the agency and in problem solving.
• Liaisons with and provides direction to all medical services such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy,
Dietician Services, and Physician Services.
• Oversees and monitors medication review and medical care in the programs.
• Administers special programs such as infection control, staff development, nursing quality improvement,
utilization review and wellness initiatives.
• Initiates action to alleviate barriers to delivery of care by identifying, defining and resolving problems.
• Promotes and evaluates the nursing department standards, philosophy, goals, and objectives to assure the
optimum level of wellness for clients; monitors accrediting/survey/regulatory body criteria to maintain
compliance.
• Makes recommendations for nursing department budget.
• Encourages and promotes a community/agency relationship to serve client and public needs.
• Facilitates whole-person care to all individuals receiving supports within the agency.
Other Functions:
• Provides consultation as a resource to staff on dealing with medial problems with the individuals.
• Participates in interdepartmental meetings to represent the nursing department.
• Participates in continuing education to maintain credentials and increase expertise and knowledge in
professional clinical nursing and administration.
• Responsible for purchasing, use of, and maintenance oversight of DME (Durable Medical Equipment) in the
programs.
• Embodies an innovative, dynamic, engaging and whole-person philosophy to wellness.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Must have a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
• At least five (5) years of management experience.
• Licensed as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia.
• Strong knowledge of management practices in the supervision of training of professional nursing staff.
• Expertise in nursing administration, organizational structure, and staffing.
• Experience in applying current nursing theories to nursing service delivery.
Physical Demands: Should be in good physical condition for required lifting and physical intervention for hazardous behavior
and assistance with care.
Working Environment:
• Must use universal precautions.
• Main Office and residential properties throughout all of CRi's service area.
Supervision Exercised: Nursing staff and outside medical service providers.
Supervision Received: Direct supervision by the Executive VP & Chief Clinical Officer
