ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the Director of Interior Design at HFG Architecture, a leading healthcare architecture firm, you will be responsible for steering the interior design department, managing a talented, multilocational team, and ensuring all design projects align with the firm's vision and goals. Your role will focus on driving design excellence, maintaining client relationships, and advancing business growth in the healthcare sector.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Leadership & Management:

  • Oversee and mentor the interior design team, including hiring, training, and professional development.
  • Set a visionary design direction for the interior design practice that aligns with the firm's objectives and healthcare-focused goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor HFG interior design standard practices.
  • Inspire and provide design leadership on projects, ensuring creative and innovative solutions are developed.
  • Lead efforts in acquiring and nurturing top talent to build a high-performing design team.
  • Act as a quality control checkpoint across all phases of work, with a keen eye for detail and design integrity.
  • Build a positive culture within the Interiors Department.

Client Relations:

  • Engage directly with healthcare clients to understand their unique needs and preferences, ensuring designs meet their requirements.
  • Present design concepts and progress updates to clients, fostering transparent communication and collaboration.
  • Coordinate closely with consultants, vendors, and clients to ensure seamless execution.

Design & Project Management:

  • Actively contribute to interior design production while continuing to lead and oversee the department as a whole.
  • Guide the development of design concepts, offering feedback and ensuring consistency with the firm's design standards.
  • Develop designs rooted in strong narrative, functionality, and responsiveness to the client brief and project context.
  • Take leadership of major projects, providing technical and design guidance at every stage.
  • Monitor project progress and maintain alignment with timelines and goals.

Marketing & Business Development:

  • Develop strategic marketing initiatives for the interior design team, promoting HFG Architecture's healthcare expertise.
  • Actively pursue new business opportunities and cultivate client relationships to expand the firm's portfolio.

Technical Expertise:

  • Make key decisions regarding furniture selections, finishes, layouts, and other interior design elements.
  • Ensure all design choices reflect consistency while taking into account cultural and regional influences, particularly within the healthcare environment.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with architectural and planning leadership to integrate interior design with overall project goals.
  • Work closely with project teams and firm principals throughout the design and execution phases to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This role includes quarterly travel to each of our office locations to support team connection and collaboration. Additional travel may be required for project-related needs, including site visits, client meetings, or industry events.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field (Bachelor's or Master's required).
  • NCIDQ Certification required.
  • Minimum 10 years of interior design experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior project role.
  • Proven experience in healthcare architecture and interior environments.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, ADA compliance, and FGI Guidelines.
  • Demonstrated success leading and mentoring design teams.
  • Ability to manage vendors and educational opportunities.
