Director of Finance - Nonprofit Sector Brooklyn, NY (Hybrid)

Compensation: $140,000 - $170,000 + Comprehensive Benefits

Location: Industry City, Brooklyn (Hybrid: 3 days onsite / 2 remote)


Client & Role:

  • A well-established $30M non-profit organization entering an exciting phase of transformation and growth is seeking a Director of Finance to join its executive leadership team. This organization serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is undergoing a rebranding and expansion under a new CEO.
  • As Director of Finance, you'll be a critical strategic partner, reporting to the COO and working closely with the CEO and Board. You'll lead a finance team of nine, while owning all financial strategy, planning, compliance, and reporting functions. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on an organization that is mission-driven and financially strong - with ambitious goals for the future.

What You'll Do

  • Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for a $30M+ nonprofit.
  • Supervise and mentor a finance team of 9, including a Comptroller.
  • Oversee financial reporting, cash flow management, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal/state regulations, and nonprofit-specific standards.
  • Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on financial planning and risk management.
  • Support the organization's expansion through systems/process improvements, acquisitions, and strategic investment planning.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years in senior-level financial roles, with at least 2 years in leadership (Director/VP/Controller).
  • Experience in the nonprofit, healthcare, or human services sector strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in budgeting, reporting, compliance, and strategic planning.
  • Prior experience managing finance teams and partnering with senior leadership.
  • Familiarity with 403(b) plans, grant reporting, and nonprofit audit prep a plus.
  • CPA, CMA, or CFA credentials are valued but not required.
  • The ideal candidate brings a proactive mindset to organizational change
