We are representing another rapidly growing start-up organization operating in the defense and national security space, leveraging a powerful network of defense and logistics experts to enhance mission-critical operations. Currently, they are hiring for a finance and accounting leader who will play a strategic role among the leadership team as the firm expands their current contract base.


Position Description

The Director of Finance and Administration will serve as a key member of the leadership team, building and leading the financial strategy, systems, and controls to support our growth. This role requires a hands-on, strategic finance leader who understands both the rigor of government contracting (FAR/DFARS) and the agility of a startup environment.


You will oversee all accounting operations, financial planning & analysis, budgeting, cash management, compliance, and government audit readiness. You'll work cross-functionally to support the ownership and investors with strategic guidance and other critical leadership tasks related to HR, IT, and Operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute financial strategy in alignment with company goals.
  • Provide financial insights to the CEO and leadership team to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team as we grow.
  • Own all accounting functions including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and compliance processes.
  • Lead DCAA-compliant accounting practices and support government audits.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and other applicable regulations.
  • Partner with Contracts and Program Management to ensure financial accuracy of government submissions (e.g., pricing, cost proposals, invoicing).
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Develop cash flow models and manage treasury functions to ensure liquidity.
  • Conduct scenario modeling to support strategic initiatives and fundraising.
  • Implement financial systems and tools that scale with the organization.
  • Streamline processes for efficiency and visibility across departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting
  • Knowledge of government contracting, DCAA compliance, and cost accounting standards.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Unanet, Deltek, etc.).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
