Position/Title: Director of Facilities

Reports To: Head of School

Position Summary

The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of buildings, grounds and operations of the Lyman and Butler Campuses of Laurel School. The facilities manager is a direct report and the department consists of 6 employees between two campuses.

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Coordinates and oversees construction projects. Consults with architects, engineers and contractors by phone, email and in-person.
  • Acts as the owner's representative for new building construction and renovations.
  • Investigates maintenance challenges and pursues viable solutions. Resolves problems and makes appropriate decisions.
  • Monitors and reviews department budget and operating expenses, including oversight of preventive maintenance programs for equipment/facilities.
  • Manages the maintenance and preventative needs of the school.
  • Initiates and/or approves quotes for equipment, services, and replacement/repair parts.
  • Estimates materials and costs for projects and makes recommendations.
  • Monitors work schedules, and priorities.
  • Recommends personnel actions (e.g., interviewing, hiring, discipline, termination) for assigned employees.
  • Communicates and enforces policies and procedures; resolves challenges; addresses employee concerns and complaints.
  • Ensures appropriate training of staff; identifies training needs and implements training activities.
  • Reads and comprehends a variety of written materials. Maintains accurate records.
  • Interprets information on blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Operates computerized equipment must possess intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets).
  • Maintains databases of various assets.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in construction, architecture, engineering/ relevant field or an equivalent amount of experience preferred. Progressively responsible experience in physical plant operations or related areas (e.g., HVAC, carpentry, masonry, etc.); with three years minimum of supervisory experience preferred. A positive attitude, excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated success in a work setting requiring collaboration, cooperation and collegiality is essential. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets) is required. Must successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.

License/Certification:

Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record. Upon hire, must obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification.
