POSITION: Director of Engineering
COMPENSATION: Competitive salary + DOE

SUMMARY: The position will provide technical oversight for the entire process of engineering and production of custom fire protection, suppression and safety systems
DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
When directed, review and analyze the content of a bid package (inclusive of all specifications, drawings, addenda and special instructions to the bidders) and identify and resolve any conflicts between the specifications and recognized codes and standards.
Interpret requirements for all codes and standards as they apply to the proposal.
Review Bills of Material including quantities of materials, labor requirements and unit costs.
Perform final review to ensure conformance with all requirements (customer and code).
Supervise, manage and mentor engineering and design direct reports.
Monitor Engineering/Design department utilization to maintain at 75% minimum recapture rate.
Actively engage with HR in recruiting efforts to staff department as workload dictates.
Accompany Sales on Pre-Bid Site Walks
Participate in creation of engineering quotations for Fire Water Design Studies.
Lead all activities related to awarded engineering/design projects.
Participate in project specific design review meetings with Design Manager, Project Managers and Designers.Verify designs meet project specifications and relevant codes.
Interpret requirements for all codes and standards as they apply to the Project.
Review and approve all engineering/design drawings (Customer and Internal)
Review and approve all flow calculations (water, foam, Novec 1230, CO2, Watermist, etc.).
Review and approve all structural calculations (skid loading, lifting, wind, seismic, etc.). Verify these meet requirements. If they do not, halt the project until countermeasures are in place and a solution is known.

Participate in field reviews of DT installations as required.
Maintain the company library of relevant industry codes and standards, ensuring we possess the most current versions.
Maintain required company licensure necessary to provide fire protection services.
Conduct Bi-Monthly department meetings to assess general status of department backlog, review latest shop rework report, hear team needs, and build team rapport.
Walk shop daily to keep abreast of issues that arise and build rapport with the department.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 15 years of relevant industry experience.
10-15 years field and/or design engineering experience (Industrial Fire Protection - Foam/Water Suppression Systems)
Professional Engineer license(s) required.
Texas RME-General license preferred.
Excellent working knowledge of NFPA 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 24, 59A, 72, 2001
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Excellent working knowledge of vendor flow calculation software (CO2, Novec 1230, CO2, etc.).
Excellent working knowledge of hydraulic calculation (KYPIPE, AutoSPRINK) and structural calculation software (Inventor FEA, NASTRAN, ROBOT).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Autodesk, AutoCad, Inventor, and Plant 3D.
