Job Description
The Director of Engineering is a strategic member of the hotel's Executive Leadership Team, entrusted with the stewardship of all physical assets and infrastructure. This role is critical in shaping the future of the hotel-leading all engineering functions, fostering a culture of operational excellence, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and guest-centric environment.
With a major renovation on the horizon, this is more than a maintenance role, it's a leadership opportunity to guide the technical transformation of a historic property while preserving its character and enhancing its performance. The Director will oversee project planning, execution, and sustainability initiatives with a deep commitment to minimizing operational disruption and maintaining the highest service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Engineering Operations: Oversee all aspects of hotel engineering, including preventive maintenance programs, energy efficiency, capital planning, life safety systems, and environmental compliance.
- Drive Renovation Success: Partner closely with ownership, designers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to plan and execute the upcoming renovation with precision, innovation, and minimal impact on the guest journey.
- Champion Guest Experience: Collaborate cross-functionally with key department heads to ensure all physical improvements align with luxury service expectations and elevate the overall guest experience.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with local and national codes (OSHA, EPA, fire safety, etc.), and proactively manage audits and risk mitigation procedures.
- Develop & Empower the Team: Recruit, train, and lead a skilled engineering team, creating a high-performance culture centered on accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
- Sustainability & Energy Management: Lead the hotel's sustainability and energy conservation programs in line with Accor's Planet 21 initiatives, with a long-term focus on environmental responsibility.
- Operational Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and manage engineering budgets, CAPEX plans, and project timelines, ensuring cost-effective operations and asset preservation.
- Be the On-Call Expert: Provide strategic and operational guidance in emergency situations, ensuring safety and business continuity at all times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline; Technical certifications and project management credentials a strong asset.
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive engineering leadership in a full-service or luxury hospitality environment.
- Proven success managing complex renovation, capital improvement, or modernization projects in operational hotels.
- Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, energy management, and sustainability.
- Excellent project management, communication, and contractor negotiation skills.
- Deep understanding of regulatory compliance and workplace safety practices.
- Familiarity with Accor brand engineering standards and systems (a plus).
