Job Summary / Basic Function:

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Director of Emergency Medical Services' responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing leadership, supervision and administrative support related to the Emergency Medical Services program, and providing the expertise and knowledge to support the institution curriculum and programs. This position is responsible for instructing students using a variety of effective methodologies and providing support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. This is an exempt staff position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep abreast of state and national issues and trends in Emergency Medical Services.
  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives, and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures contained in TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms with requested timelines.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Establish annual objectives for professional and program growth in consultation with the department chair.
  • Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and institute.
  • Participate in business, student, and/or community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission of LIT.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the LIT planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmental objectives and goals and in establishing budget priorities.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry, and higher education.
  • Assist in articulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Perform related duties as required.


TRAVEL REQUIRED:Ability to travel to approved LIT training sites

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine; frequently move items and equipment typically found in an EMS environment, up to 50 lbs. Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in appropriate medical or allied health related education

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Certified Paramedic; Licensed Paramedic preferred
  • Texas DSHS EMS Instructor or National EMS Instructor
  • Texas DSHS EMS Coordinator, eligible for Advanced status
  • American Health Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Instructor

Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Eight (8) years field experience with a 911 EMS agency. Note: Part-time experience counts as half of full-time experience
  • Two (2) years EMS Clinical Coordinator or EMSP Program Clinical Coordinator
  • Two (2) years of EMS Instruction; experience at an institute of higher education preferred

Salary:

$59,000 (inclusive of base salary plus program director stipend)
