Summary:
A mission-driven nonprofit is seeking a Director of Development to lead and grow its fundraising and donor engagement strategy. Reporting to the President & CEO, this individual will be responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing development efforts that support the organization's long-term goals. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, effective communicator, and relationship builder with a strong track record in nonprofit fundraising.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement annual fundraising plans in partnership with executive leadership and the board
- Identify new funding opportunities and cultivate relationships with major donors, corporations, and foundations
- Manage donor portfolios, oversee database accuracy, and maintain detailed records of giving history and donor recognition
- Prepare grant applications, proposals, reports, and donor correspondence to support funding initiatives
- Secure sponsorships for fundraising events and provide hands-on support for major initiatives, including the annual gala
- Collaborate with internal teams to align fundraising goals with organizational programs and community impact
- Monitor and report on key fundraising metrics, producing reports and dashboards to guide strategy
- Ensure proper internal controls for tracking, receipting, and disbursement of funds
Qualifications
- Proven nonprofit fundraising experience required
- Strong knowledge of fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and charitable giving principles
- Experience managing donor databases (e.g., DonorPerfect or similar systems)
- Skilled in grant writing, donor communications, and fundraising event coordination
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strategic, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
- High level of professionalism, initiative, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
