Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary:The Director of Career Development and Engagement on the Career Advancement & Success Team at the Argyros College of Business and Economics (ACBE) partners with the team and key stakeholders internally and externally, including staff, faculty, alumni, employer partners among others to deliver a data-inspired strategy for ACBE students' career and professional development leading to successful first destinations post-graduation and improved employment rates. Reporting into the Assistant Dean of Career Advancement and Student Success, the role may supervise staff and student employees and serves as a leader and manager in ACBE, motivating and inspiring the team to excellent service, responsiveness and accountability.
The Director fosters a collaborative culture for student success by crafting forward-looking initiatives and programming to elevate career connection from curriculum to the workplace. By partnering with senior leadership, the Director will develop a thoughtful plan for student career success by placing a balanced lens on outcomes, metrics, and career "fit" by maintaining deep knowledge of the current talent hiring landscape while predicting and preparing for students' and the team for changes in employer needs.
As a highly visible brand ambassador and champion of diversity, equity and inclusion, the Director is a convener of connections and manager of multiple relationships for the advancement of ACBE students' careers and must have the ability to exercise sound judgement and handle complex, confidential issues with professionalism.
Responsibilities:Career Advancement
- Oversee the team's outreach functions with groups such as students, faculty, staff, alumni, and recruiters to effectively engage in career-exploration related activities
- In collaboration with the Director of Corporate Relations create a strategic plan and vision on growing the Argyros and Chapman brand for talent locally, regionally, nationally and internationally
Career Education & Coaching- Support and oversee the team's career coaching effectiveness and adjust strategies based on best practices and data.
- Coach and mentor students on career planning and job searching, including resume reviews (written and video), cover letters, interview preparation, professional communications, while developing the essential and professional skills for career success.
- Lead the team's utilization and adoption of technological tools to improve student satisfaction and service scalability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to create programming and brand awareness
- May teach two sections of a career course per semester (formats may include synchronous or asynchronous, online, hybrid or in-person) utilizing a learning management site for portfolio-wide created lesson plans, syllabi, assignments, and presentations. Grade assignments and provide feedback promptly to build professionally appropriate relationships with students for improvement. Teaching credit, non-credit, and workshop may place outside the normal workday and will be based on the academic calendar and space availability
Campus and Community Engagement- Oversee the planning and implementation of new career initiatives and events to create opportunities for students and employers to engage by partnering with the Chapman community and the Director of Corporate Relations to help achieve student employment goals.
- Increase participation in employer events (career fairs, networking events, etc.) and assist and possibly lead job fair planning and implementation.
- Develop an employer scorecard to support the Director of Corporate Relations outreach strategies.
- Conduct career-focused interviews and provide insightful input for assessing the career readiness of MBA and specialized business master's program admission candidates
Internship, Experiential Learning and Full-Time Job Support- Manage the team's efforts to guide students to successful post-graduation outcomes through internships, co-ops, experiential learning for full-time employment and further education.
- Facilitate and support employers to meet their talent acquisition goals
Data Collection & Compliance- Manage and oversee data collection and tracking of student reporting of career outcomes and first destinations upon graduation for rankings and accreditation
Required Qualifications:- Relevant masters degree in business, counseling, higher education, human resources preferred; Bachelor degree required
