ob Summary:
The Director of CAD for Foodservice Equipment leads a team of designers and engineers in the creation and optimization of foodservice equipment layouts using CAD software. This role ensures that drawings meet customer needs and comply with safety/quality standards. The Director works closely with the Design, Engineering, Estimating, Accounting, & Project Management Teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective foodservice design solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of CAD designers and engineers, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality output. Including assigning projects, reviewing work, managing PTO, and training as needed.
- Establish design guidelines and best practices for CAD drafting.
- Maintain extensive Project File database and training materials.
- Manage project timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of project designs.
- Foster collaboration between departments company-wide.
Design and Development:
- Oversee the design and development of foodservice equipment layouts (such as restaurant kitchens, hotels, bars, bakeries, etc.).
- Use CAD software (AutoCAD) to create 2D technical drawings for use in the field.
- Write all design contracts for potential design projects. Once signed, track design progress to inform Accounts Department as to when payments are due.
- Communicate with customers regarding timelines & design related inquiries.
Software Improvement and Innovation:
- Further develop Revit Department, including full Revit implementation from Auto CAD.
- Identify, explore and implement AI tools to improve team efficiency and design capabilities.
- Continued development and improvement of our design product and client experience.
Quality and Compliance:
- Ensure designs adhere to local Health Department codes, Building Codes, and the company's high standard for efficient and aesthetically pleasing designs.
Resource Management:
- Manage CAD Department's personnel to remain within the company's budget. Project future staffing levels.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in CAD design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role in foodservice or related industries.
- Expertise in CAD software (AutoCAD and Revit required).
- Strong understanding of foodservice equipment design principles.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (NSF, UL, etc.) in foodservice equipment.
- Ability to innovate and drive new concepts while keeping the focus on practicality and functionality.
- Proficient in Design and Documentation of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP). Experience with BIM modeling/software is a plus.
