Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled and dynamic Director of Accounting to lead financial operations for a fast-growing government contractor. This role encompasses financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, pricing, project accounting, and operational management. The ideal candidate must have prior experience in government contracting and be proficient in Unanet Government Contracting Accounting Software.
This position requires a proactive leader who can develop and refine financial processes, policies, and systems to drive efficiency and compliance. In addition to overseeing financial operations, the Director of Accounting will also provide strategic oversight for finance, human resources, IT, and business operations to support the organization's growth. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and high performance while ensuring the financial health and operational success of the company.
Responsibilities:

• Update and maintain company financials in Unanet Financials monthly and prepare monthly financial reporting packages.

• Oversee daily financial, contractual, and operational activities to ensure alignment with business plans.

• Design, establish, and manage financial metrics, reports, and dashboards in Unanet Financials for effective financial planning, budgeting, project accounting, and contract management.

• Track and report company program and division performance, including revenue, project margins, indirect rates, and key financial metrics to maximize profitability.

• Lead development of complex Excel-based pricing and cost models for proposals, project budgets, and government RFP/RFQ responses.

• Engage with program and division managers to establish financial budgets and reporting structures.

• Ensure DCAA audit compliance and oversee incurred cost submissions (ICS).

• Support management in building and managing budgets, resource allocations, and conducting regular program management reviews focused on financials.

• Monitor revenue and expenses, coordinate financial data consolidation, and prepare special reports.

• Evaluate financial trends and identify opportunities for operational improvements and process enhancements.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory-based best practices and corporate policies while maintaining alignment with corporate philosophy.

• Foster a high-performance company culture, promoting efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (MBA or CPA strongly preferred).

• 8+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or similar roles, with at least 3+ years in a managerial role within a government contracting firm.

• Extensive experience with Unanet Financials and Project Portfolio systems.

• Strong background in government contract accounting, DCAA audits, and incurred cost submissions.

• Experience with public accounting, ideally from firms such as Aprio, Forvis, Dixon Hughes, or other CPA firms specializing in GovCon.

• Deep understanding of Federal government contract pricing, contract types (FFP, T&M, CPFF, etc.), and financial risk management.

• Proven ability to develop scalable financial processes, reporting structures, and compliance frameworks for government contractors.

• Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to manage, supervise, and coordinate teams effectively.

• Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills, capable of handling multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.

• Must have a strong backbone to handle leadership responsibilities and work collaboratively with executive leadership to drive financial strategy.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.

• Experience in Project Management (PMP certification preferred).

• Prior experience in contract management, NDAs, teaming agreements, and subcontractor coordination.

• Hands-on experience managing project budgets, financial reporting, and audits.
