Overview:
This position leads the provision of care for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Blank 3 general Pediatrics, Blank 4 hematology/oncology, pediatric emergency department, pediatric IRT, pediatric care managers and pediatric sedation services. Guided by the UnityPoint Health Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan, the Director is responsible for the overall effective operation of these departments in regard to care delivery, quality and safety outcomes, employee engagement, patient experience, regulatory compliance and fiscal management. He/she uses research and outcomes data to support the design, development, and implementation of processes and programs that improve patient care and stimulate departmental and organizational growth. The Director works collaboratively with other service lines, other markets, and other providers of pediatric services within our community and state to maximize care coordination. The Director of Inpatient Pediatrics creates and maintains a culture of trust that fosters teamwork and the continual pursuit of excellence in the provision of pediatric care.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the administrative/operational functions of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Blank 3 general Pediatrics, Blank 4 hematology/oncology, pediatric emergency department, pediatric IRT, pediatric care managers and pediatric sedation services; development of budgets and the effective use of resources, strategic planning, development of partnerships and relationships to advance the goals of the organization.
Responsible for clinical services within the service line, including standards of care, protocols, staffing plans, evaluation of patient care, and process improvement.
Serves as the administrative leader and liaison with physicians and physician activities; serves as the administrative representative to related medical staff departments, sections, and committees.
Responsible for acquiring and allocating human, material, and financial resources for the functions of the service line.
Collaborates with leadership of other service lines to enhance patient throughput and coordination of care between departments.
Evaluates current evidence and outcomes data to influence change in regard to operational processes, procedures and systems.
Demonstrates knowledge of current reimbursement systems and payor sources when evaluating the efficiency of the patient's visit.
Assumes responsibility for the creation, development and implementation of new programs; seeking avenues of growth and new opportunities.
Leads, manages, and supports the leaders of these departments. Sets goals and objectives consistent with UPH strategic initiatives, monitors progress and performance, initiates action plans and provides feedback.
Promotes a culture of safety by making patient and workplace safety a priority. Designs and upholds standards of a Just Culture. Champions reporting of unsafe practices.
Demonstrates innovation in care delivery and care coordination.
Participates and leads initiatives to update issues and trends in nursing and healthcare to continually elevate professional nursing practice and team member engagement.
Supports a healthy work environment conducive to recruitment retention and engagement of team members.
Adept in skills required to effectively lead a team including conflict management, change management, negotiation, and mediation.
Actions portray effective leadership traits including respectful and effective communication, conflict management, change leadership, negotiation, mediation and collaboration.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Preferred or Specialized
Education:
Master's Degree in Nursing, or BSN with other applicable master's degree (MHA, MBA).
Experience:
Three or more years of progressing leadership positions in the healthcare environment.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Related specialty or professional certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
Other:
Ability to travel between campuses, frequently with limited notice
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
