We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director to lead our metabolic disease programs and drive departmental initiatives. This key role will involve overseeing a talented in vivo team, guiding strategic direction, and ensuring the success of current metabolic disease programs. The Director will collaborate closely with senior leadership to refine vision, prioritize initiatives, lead programs, develop talent, and build strong external partnerships.


The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of drug development, contributing to Discovery-wide efforts and enhancing our standing as a leader in novel therapeutics.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Program Lead, overseeing and coordinating cross-functional activities for metabolic disease programs.
  • Contribute to critical decision-making regarding therapeutic indications and differentiation strategies.
  • Play a key role in shaping long-term strategy for metabolic diseases.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of new therapeutic targets.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of in vivo scientists.
  • Identify and manage external collaborations to further program goals.
  • Present data and strategy at team meetings, cross-functional gatherings, corporate presentations, KOL discussions, and scientific conferences.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD and 10+ years of relevant experience in metabolic diseases
  • 8+ years of supervisory experience; at least 5 years of experience leading an in vivo team
  • 8+ years of experience in drug development in metabolic diseases
  • 5+ years of experience in program leadership role (program lead or in vivo lead)
  • Experience the interpretation and prioritization of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models
  • Strong understanding of assay cascade optimization, the identification of development candidates, and IND-enabling studies
  • Track record in bringing programs from hit-to-lead to development candidate
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Significant background in drug development
