POSITION: Director of Graphic Design
LOCATION: Utica, NY
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Marketing

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Utica Comets (AHL) and Utica City FC (MASL) are seeking a dynamic and creative Director of Graphic Design to lead the visual identity and creative direction of both teams across all platforms. This role is responsible for executing high-level design work that energizes fans, supports ticket sales, elevates in-game entertainment, and reinforces brand consistency.

The ideal candidate is passionate about sports, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering visually impactful design under tight deadlines. The role requires a strong background in both static and motion graphics, with the opportunity to work on innovative projects-such as integrating creative assets into the first digital dashboards in North American sports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create original design elements for a wide range of uses, including:
    • Ticket promotions
    • Gameday graphics
    • In-arena and video board displays
    • Social media campaigns
    • Print and digital advertising
  • Develop motion graphics and short-form animations for video board content, social platforms, and promotional videos.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Game Presentation to produce in-game entertainment visuals and assist in real-time execution on game nights.
  • Work with the VP of Marketing to build and deliver assets for multi-platform marketing campaigns, ensuring consistency in branding and tone.
  • Adapt and innovate for new technologies, including design for the league's first-of-its-kind digital dashboard system.
  • Assist with gameday production, including setup, graphics engine control (Chyron Click Effects), and real-time content adjustments.
  • Maintain a consistent brand identity across all Utica Comets and Utica City FC platforms and initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field-or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a graphic design role, preferably within sports, entertainment, or live events.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in motion design tools such as After Effects (strongly encouraged).
  • Familiarity with video board and display graphics; experience with in-venue content is a plus.
  • Working knowledge or willingness to learn design integration for live control systems and graphics engines.
  • Strong understanding of design principles including typography, layout, and brand development.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and responding to feedback in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with a collaborative spirit.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and game days as needed.

SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $70,000 (based on experience)
