Job Title:Director, Governments AffairsDepartment:FAES Dean-VP Operating
Under the direction of the Vice President for Agricultural Administration and Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), this position is responsible for government relations in the CFAES. In cooperation with the overall direction of the Ohio State University Office of Government Affairs, develops/strengthens relationships with public officials at all levels of government, university advocates, agencies, university leadership when appropriate, and related staff for these groups to positively impact the college and advance the university's agenda. Position serves as a member of the Ohio State University Government Affairs Team, monitors legislation and governmental issues; executes lobbying efforts, appropriation requests and preparation, etc. and participates in strategy development. Other responsibilities include managing key annual events/activities and volunteer advocates for CFAES including capacity funding for OSU Extension and research funding through the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC).
Occasional evening and weekend work; includes some local and national travel. The position is based in CFAES with dotted line responsibility to the Vice President of Government Relations.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and 7-10 years of relevant experience including familiarity with food, agriculture, natural resources and related field(s), stakeholders, and associated industries. Experience with policy, governance, or public relations. Experience with policy, governance, or public relations including but not limited to interactions with elected officials, proven experience in Ohio. Must have ability to formalize, analyze, and summarize pending legislative actions, knowledge of public relations law and/or political science; and basic knowledge of organization & operation of federal, state & local government. Knowledge and experience working in or with higher education. Excellent leadership, organization, written, and verbal communications skills required. Must exhibit professionalism and be team oriented while thriving autonomously, and exhibit ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Qualifications Desired
Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and 12 or more years of relevant experience.
