UW Medicine Patient Financial Access Services - Finance Access Clearance Team (FACT) has an outstanding opportunity for a DIRECTOR, FINANCIAL ACCESS CLEARANCE.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE (40 hours per week)
  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 4:00pm (weekends when needed)
  • Day Shift
  • Primarily remote, may require travel as necessary according to Enterprise Revenue Cycle needs

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Directs and evaluates daily operations of the UW Medicine Enterprise Revenue Cycle Financial Access Clearance Team (FACT), overseeing pre-service financial clearance, data quality, and integration of services across inpatient (IP) and outpatient (OP) hospital services, surgery, radiology, and other FACT-supported areas.
  • Ensures patient accounts meet regulatory and insurance requirements, including authorizations, pre-certification, IP notifications, and patient estimates. Collaborates with contract management, utilization management, and Patient Financial Services on insurance denials.
  • Requires expertise in regulatory compliance, business planning, process improvement, budget administration, and personnel management, with the ability to prioritize under pressure.
  • Requires expert knowledge of financial clearance, insurance requirements, and experience with project management, lean principles, workflow redesign, and operational expertise in Patient Access and the Enterprise Revenue Cycle.
  • Requires significant knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs operations to ensure timely, cost-effective services and tracks performance, collaborating across departments to resolve issues and improve productivity.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities, recommends changes, and ensures staff receive training on quality and performance initiatives.
  • Manages staff, ensuring proper staffing levels, qualifications, and training; conducts interviews, holds regular staff meetings, handles personnel decisions, provides feedback, and contributes to performance management.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and implements effective solutions to maintain service levels and quality.
  • Develops and updates policies, procedures, workflows, and tools to ensure compliance and consistency with organizational values.
  • Assists in preparing and managing budgets ($5M to $25M), monitors expenses, and addresses budget variances with action plans.
  • Leads by example, sets high standards, and ensures alignment with organizational goals, fostering teamwork and positive relationships.
  • Promotes adherence to legal and regulatory standards, provides ongoing staff training, and ensures continuous improvement through performance metrics.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance healthcare, or a related field.
  • 7 years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle experience, including 5 years in a Patient Access Services leadership role in a complex healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, healthcare reporting, and Epic workflow/reporting (including Slicer Dicer).
  • Experience with the EPIC Hospital Billing System and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
